I would love to see such a game, but would the cultural gap be too much to overcome?

This may sound silly, but I wish, especially with today's technology, that some bold game company decided to make a game about...

A taoist priest hunting down hopping vampires.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the premise, in Asia the favorite monster in their horror movies are not killers behind a mask (i.e. Jason, Michael Myers) but rather hopping vampires.

The thought of a hopping vampire might sound funny to some folks, but if you ever seen some of the nastier looking ones, they can be quite intimidating.

A great film about hopping vampires is "Mr. Vampire", which is a huge cult hit and a film sought after by many collectors. I remember a few people on this board being a fan of the film.
I would recommend the film to any horror fan, especially with the sub-titles. Great flick.

I would love to see someone make a game with that premise in mind. Either as a 3D horror or adventure game. I know the cultural gap is there, but I think it could be a hit.

Or am I wrong?

Or have we seen and played one too many Resident Evil-type games? :p

Sounds like it might be kinda cool ?
How old is that movie ?
Is it a high or low budget type of film ?
I will have to check out your link.

I wouldnt mind seeing something other than RE in that genre.
Up to this point that is just the only decent game of its type I think ?

I have seen a mod (sort of a fan made add-on) for Half-Life that involves fighting between vampire hunters and vampires.

It's a FPS though, and I haven't tried it, so I'm not sure how well it plays.

Unfortunately I kind of got the impression that its more like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer thing than what you would be thinking.

Here's my question to everyone: What kind of game would this be?

RE style (set camera angles)
3rd person
1st person
side-scrolling
anything other ideas you might have

?

Strange im just not into Hong Kong or horror films and know very little about them. But I saw Mr Vampire 1 and 2 on TV by accident in the early 90's!!!!!!!!! I think a company called MIA in England may sell this film on video.

When you say "hopping vampires" do you mean vampires that hop from soul to soul, possessing people or do you mean vampires that actually HOP, like skip around all gay and shit?

A game where they possess souls might be lame, but a game where vampires hop around like they're the fucking Easter Bunny might be cool.

By "hopping vampires" I mean they actually hop to move around. Hop... *thud*... hop... *thud*

The pattern is actually creepier than it sounds. :D

You know like the bastard things from castlevania. I have one question though. Why would a taoist kill things?

Hehe, i know EXACTLY what you are talking about, I thought there was a NES game that has hopping vampires (they are more like zombies than vampires). When I was a kid, I cannot watch those cheesy HK horror movies, cuz I am too scared. Now I look back, and I laugh uncontrollably how silly they are.... Hop hop... LOL <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[LOL]" />

I think I've heard of that game; it was called Phantom Fighter, if memory serves. (Of all the times for memory to serve me correctly... XP)
