It seems that they will release games at a discounted rate of $19.99 to combat Nintendo's "Player's Choice Line" of console games.

They only weird thing though is that to qualify as a platinum hit, the game has to sell 300 to 500 thousand copies. That seems awfully week for a greatest hit. The thing that kills me is that Halo will not be reduced in price. The only game that seems to be sellign well on the system.

Well, you answered it for yourself, it's still selling well for $49, why should they lower the price, makes no sense.

Hm, guess I will buy Project Gotham Platinum then. PGR isn't as good as MSR DC (I don't like the new Kudos system), but it's fun, and $19.99 a pop seems okay to me.

i got halo for 29.99 at best buy during a week
or month sale of it. its a good game and all.
but hell. they ought to make it a greatest hit.
anyways.
halo 2 will come out later and they ll have to lower
it regardless.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
btw.
you ll notice that all the platinum titles mentioned
are titles that have been at the price point of
19.99-29.99
for the last 3-4 months anyways.
the gc ones actually being lowered though for the first time.
I'm happy that they are about to lower game prices. I'm in Europe, and over here they even sell the old games for no less than 44 Euros, but mostly they try to sell it for 59 Euros, fukn greed, that's what this is. oh_no
Thank god there's a HUGE Xbox used games market...
thats something i never really did understand.
its pretty lame.
i remember going to masa and seeing lots of cool
nintendo games back when i was around but the prices?
woooo...
but that was ages ago.
one would think that it would get better with the
games getting more mainstream.
sorry though.
The greatest hits games are filtering out now. I saw 2 of them yesterday at Toy Werks and at Target. Keep an eye out.
If you think 300k - 500k is sad for a greatest hit, think that the PS2 and PSX games only need to sell 100k while Nintendo's Players Choice games have to sell 1 million. Although the lower sales number is better for consumers who want cheaper games its a sad testament to the quality of games produced for XBox and PS2.
They're finally coming out?
The latest issue of the Official XBOX Magazine reported on the Platinum Hits line.
Xboxes are selling like hot cakes everywhere but japan.
and am i the only one that doesn't like Greatest Hits/ Platinum Series /Players Choice e.t.c???
Usually the game has been out long enough to drop in price, i remember buying Ridge Racer on the PS1 for £5 new, and the GH/Platinum version came out a few weeks later for £19.99. Also , the artwork takes a hit. I could live without them.
I'm not big on the Greatest HIts collections either...I try to stick with the first print stuff myself whenever possible.
The DC was notorious for its hideous red/orange color scheme on their "Greatest Hits" collection games.
Only 100,000 need to be sold to be a greatest hit? Wrong, the games that become greatest hits have to sell at least 750,000 if memory serves me correct. That's alot more impressive then the couple hundred thousand games that X-box has to sell.
As for Nintendo, 1 million copies seems like a decent acheivement.
it said "player choice" on the box? I never did see them.....
Odd..
Also, it shouldn't matter how late they come into play.... if took forever for Zelda for the SNES to become a Players choice... it was close to the N64 time... or at least for the Players choice version to be distributed.
