I NEED SERIOUS HELP QUICK!!!!

Does anybody know anything about viruses?!?!?! My shit is fucked, i mean FUCKED! My anti-virus program just won't fuckin work right. The thing is In my C Drive there are these files with nonsensical unintelligable characters as the filenames and they are like multiplying and now my C drive's name is some crazy shit. When I run my norton antivirus it just keeps reading my C drive over and over and over and won't go to my other drives unless i make it read them manually.

I've been to the symantec webside and read up on some viruses and downloaded various fixes since my NAV isn't working right and the fixes I DL never find a virus.

I'm getting pissed cuz these crazy ass files replicate as the hours go on.

Anybody familiar with a virus like this?

All I can think of if you already tried to search for help online is to backup all needed files and store them in a zipped folder then format and re-install. Once your back up and running use a fully updated antivirus program and search the zipped folder. It sounds like you SOL as far as I can tell.

knowing sonic... the other sonic... he would backup what he has, format and then scan his shit afterwards. pretty much what samuraix said, but maybe he'd have another idea..

if you can't even pick up this virus with any scanners and you can't squat, i know i would definitely do what samuraix said.

OK... if Antivirus isn't picking it up, and the scanner from SARC (which isn't even the right name, but we will call it SARC... they are actually Security Response now) didn't find anything then you have some weird shit going on. If it is something new, Symantec should have defs in a few hours... since you are probably not alone. If it is something old, it may have affected your ability to update defs... Since SAV can detect virus like activities (and renaming your HD to symbols is a virus like activity) then Auto Protect was disabled (maybe by you) or is no longer working.

So for sanity sake... What version of SAV are you running, what date are your defs, and what OS are you running.

It sounds like a macro virus, or a replicating worm. Especially if it has a delivery payload that was mailing people. Oh and yeah, I work for Symantec, but I am not really involved with Security Response, I do firewalls and the shiznal like that, I don't work with Virri much... but maybe I can help,

I'm using NAV 2002 and my Virus Definitions date is 3/26/2003 and i'm runnin on XP.

Here's what you want to do. I know Norton 2003 can do this, and I'm not sure if it'll work right w/ Norton 2002. Put the CD in the drive and reboot the machine (make sure you BIOS is set to boot from the CDROM), and boot off the Norton CD. Do a virus scan from there and see what you can pick up. The reason 2002 might not work is that this works off the definitions on the CD (I think, not sure) so it may not have the definition. Also check nortons web-page and see if you can find the name of the virus and then find specific removal commands.

But in all honesty, BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU CAN to CD and format the fucker.

If you know when you got it, try opening "Find->Files or Folders" from your start menu and looking for every file created and/or modified after (and including) that date. Then delete those SOBs. Good luck!

My shit started flipping out like day before yesterday but sonic1687 sent me a message before that saying he got an email from me with the virus and a Hyper.exe attatchment. I don't know what i could've dled that would make my shit do that. I think it was an email that got me though, thats the only thing I could think of.
