Black GBA-SP Screen quality problem?

I've done some comparison tests with the new SP's today.
What brought this about, was that I noticed that the Black ones seemed to have poorer colour definition, and greater dust contamination than the other colours.

I had three black ones to compare, and all have darker less colourful screens than the other colours.
White looks grey, and some blue has an almost turquoise look to it.
The brightest seemed to be the Silver one (although I only had one to test) and the colours are really bright and vivid.
Blue was a good second, and the difference between silver and black was quite shocking when you look at the two side-by-side.

I'm assuming that the Black ones were made on a diferent line, or with different parts?
Weird though! Anyone noticed anything similar? Or did I just see a duff batch?

I bought a Black one last week, and it had a burned out pixel. I was royally pissed, but I was able to sell it to a used game shop for close to what I paid. I didn't feel like going through the hassle of trying to get Nintendo to fix it.

As far as the color definition, I can't confirm that as I was not able to directly compare it to any other SP's.

I bought a Cobalt. Light wasn't super bright, there was a chunk of dust in it. Returned it for a silver. Light was way brighter, and the piece of dust was in same place, but much smaller. Weird that there's differences, neh?

I would bet that it's random if anything. I guess it's possible that there are multiple providers of some key components but I'd be surprised to find that the differences in screen quality by unit color are consistent.

I did have 2 black ones with dust in them though.
My blue one had no dust but I didn't notice any difference in the screen.

I bought a Japanese black one a month ago and the light works just dandy. It tends to wash things out just a bit, but other than that, no complaints here about richness in color, etc.

I'd still get an SP, if it has any major problems, you'll notice soon enough that exchanging it for a new one wouldn't be a problem.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Both of my friends that bought Cobalts have darker lighting than my Silver.

So it is true then!
Silver ones have brighter more vivid lighting and colour!

I wonder why?

I havent seen any dead pixels on any yet?
So I guess I was luckier than some! Dead pixels really piss me off! That is inexcusable in this day and age.

I have played a few of the cobalt and platinum ones......, I have not played a black one yet...

I have not had a Pixel burnt, dust under the screen, or color problems with any of them.

The only thing that I can see is that the screen w/out the light is NOT MUCH brighter than the screen of the normal GBA.

I wish they would have made the normal screen easier to see... but with the backlight.. its wonderful. Almost bumps it into the #1 hadheld spot for me, seriously. My #1 is the Turbo Express... but... The SP is going to be tied for 1st soon. Nomad is 2nd.

I think that since the system is not truly "backlit", but lit from underneath by a fluorescent light, it is possible that the black sp's refract less light than the silver and cobalt. Since they are lighter colors (colours for my european friends wink ) they return more light from the sides and top, not just the botton like the black tends to do. Just a suggestion on why this might make the black sp's seem darker :)
