an honest review of halo...

"OK...First off, X-box is garbage. With that out of the way, yes, I've played Halo and I found it to be a very average game. The ONLY reason that it's so hyped is that every other game for X-box is trash. From what I've seen of this garba...I mean game, it looks like more of the same with prettier graphics...Exactly what X-Box is all about. Graphics dont make the game - X-Box is proof of this. If you want my advice, forget this game...matter of face, just SELL YOUR X-BOX. It's a waste of space. Get a PS2 or Gamecube. Those are both QUALITY systems. Oh, and you know whats pretty funny...What are the two games that everyone says are good for x-box? Halo and Splinter Cell, right? Halo is coming out for PC and Splinter Cell is coming out for EVERYTHING! HAHAHAHAHA! So much for x-box exclusives. What a piece of trash."

I always say system wars are for people that don't have them all, myself.

Halo is a hell of a good game. Stands as the best console FPS in my opinion. Multiplayer still loses out to Goldeneye though.

I think most people here know you are an X-Box owner/fan and that the last thing you would do is bash your baby. I figured you were just trying to make fun of the guy who wrote the Vice City review on the board earlier.

the only reason I even own an xbox is because I can play Capcom vs SNK 2 online.. other than that, yeah, it's pretty much garbage

Ugh..

Well, from my siggy and such you should gather I'm a humongous BUNGiE fan.

Halo is definitely one of the greatest games ever made.. it's in my personal top 5. It's not just the gameplay that makes Halo great, it's the epic storyline.

You can play the game, not watch the cutscenes and get one hell of a ride. Probably the best FPS you're going to get on a console, all things being equal. Multiplayer isn't there because of no XBL.

When you get into the storyline, examine that and the BUNGiE universe... it adds a complete "other" dimension to the game. Everything in that game is there for a reason. The music, the dialogue, the way things look... absolutely everything was built with a purpose. It's the 7th game in an insane "series" if you want to get into the nuances. (Actually, it's probably a prequel/side story.) All of BUNGiE's games link up together story-wise and playing through Halo just blew me away.. from the sly placement of little nods to their previous games... to the running theme of the Jjaro/Forerunner.

If you don't agree with me and own halo, I suggest two site to thoroughly read through and then play through Halo again. It takes a few hours, but it's a primer to most of the BUNGiE universe. It *will* bring you a new appreciation for the game.

http://halo.bungie.org/story

For the record, my fav games switch between:

Super Metroid
Halo
Marathon 2
MGS
MSR
Metal Gear
Tecmo Super Bowl 3

Why did I tell you this, just to throw in there that I'm not a console fan-boy and I have no specific allegiance to a company or a system. I think that the console war shit is ridiculous. The only differences between them all now is what is exclusive. I think if you're so caught up in one console and need to get to espouse rhetoric about it and other consoles.. you need to get out of your parent's basement, tan that pasty skin.. go to a strip club and *finally* see a naked woman that's not related to you and discover things like society and human interaction.

Put it this way: Halo is a great game if you don't have a good PC and don't really play 1st person shooters. But for people like me that have logged literally hundreds of hours both online and offline with 1st person shooters such as Half-Life, TFC, Counter-Strike, Wolfenstein, UT, Quake, etc. there's really nothing that interests me with Halo that I can't do with PC FPS.

Not a flame, just my opinion.

I don't know. I've played FPS games on and offline since the first Doom over my modem back in '95 or so--those were the days. But Halo has something about it that makes it really great. I'm completely against FPS games on a console, but Halo actually works well with a controller.

It's a blast to play by yourself or in co-op mode on Legendary. The AI is far smarter than any other FPS I've ever played, console or PC otherwise. As for multiplayer, if you haven't gotten 8-16 people together to play this game yet, do it. A "Halo Fest" as we call it, will completely change how you look at this game. Bloodgulch and Sidewinder are just so fun to play CTF on while two seperate teams yell back and forth between eachother in different rooms. It's so great.

Halo 2 is looking like it's going to add a lot to the game. Can't wait for this one to come out. All the people I get together to play with once in a while are talking about actually taking off work for the week it comes out so we can just play it to death and get it out of our systems. Weather that will happen has yet to be seen, but it does say a lot.

Oh, and I don't even own an Xbox (or PS2 for that matter), I just play everyone elses. I'll probably pick one up at next price drop though.

For some reason, Halo (single player) just bores me, and I can't figure out why. It's got a story, it's got pretty decent music, it's got long levels, it's got a variety of weapons... but man, it just puts me to sleep. And multiplayer *can* be fun, but often times isn't. I still find myself hoping for a Perfect Dark sequal more than anything else in the action genre...

Seems my X-Box is growing on me more and more as time passes, though. Besides some of the fun original stuff (which I admittedly find to be nowhere near as interesting as the PS2/GC exclusive lineups), I appreciate being able to play (generally) superior versions of multi-console games on it.

Nope, Halo didn't keep me interested long enough to hate it remotely as much as the guy who did the review.

I would hardly jump to conclusions about my gaming life. The bulk of my gaming takes place on the Neo Geo and Dreamcast. I'm a fighter player first and foremost, and those two systems have the good ones.

I agree with someone elses above statement that halo does work great with a controller. Double3 analog isnt that bad people! buttrock
But as far as the game, there arent too many small, tiny details such ass blinking covenant or sweat or real time lighting to the fullest, but seriously, the control, the story and the damn soundtrack kick serious ass. It only lets you carry two guns at a time, which i find challeng and enlifting(in a way)
But this, honestly isnt my favorite game ever, but it is the best overall game ever. That is, until halo 2 comes out!

agreed

i found the gaame very linear - yes yo can go on little trips away from the action, but there is nothing to do and the lack of different bad guys is very poor as well

i have had more fun and enjoyment from goldeneye and perfect dark

the game could have been better imo - but its still a fine game :) :)

funny how you mention Golden Eye and PD. Both are still my fav shooters after Halo. Halo is VERY good IMO. It's capability of having 16 man slaughter fests is grand! but Golden Eye's and Perfect Darks missions kept me hooked for a long time

I link Halo..I bought a second Xbox just for this game.
...This game is one of my favorite all time games..The fkn Co-Op mode is so much fun.

I play a lot of games..and I have many favorites.
But Halo is in the top of my list always.

I find things to do in Halo that make it very replayable.
One of the Best Games of All Time..
