Wow, I was just talking to a friend about absurd TV commercials today, good timing Biomotor.
I don't have any links to these right now, but there are 3 commercials that strike me as so bizarre that I am really entertained by them. (I don't know if these are nationwide commercials though, so you may not have seen them all...)
1) An ad for a fruity womens drink called "Arbor Mist". Some women sit on their beachfront patio having a little 'girl talk' and drinking this incredibly lightweight fruit-tinged white zinfandel. Then, their husbands (Who have been on the beach playing football or something) see that their wives have the "Arbor Mist", so they go nuts and beg their wives to share, even going so far as to build a replica of Leonardo's David out of sand. What makes this one so absurd is that no man would EVER drink this shit, let alone go nuts like the dog in the old "Chuckwagon" commercials...
2) The commercial for Ballpark Franks where a man and his wife are in a department store and the wife makes the husband hold her purse while she shops. They close up on the guy, looking like a complete dork for about 10 seconds. Then, a voiceover comes in and says: "At least you can still eat like a real man" as they proceed to show you closeups of sizzling hotdogs. All I have to say is: What's up with the overtly homosexual imagery there, Ballpark?
3) The Panda Express commercial where there is this 40-something geek who is obsessed with this Chinese fast food chain. He collects all this Panda Express memorabilia and even ceremoniously bows to a framed Panda Express polo shirt! Then they cut to a
shot of a chef that looks like Jacky Chan! WTF is up wit dat?
Needless to say, but the combination of unintentional humor and 'Ed Wood' like ineptness makes these 3 my current favorites.
