I've only played MOTW on the DC and its a great game, with pretty good graphics/animation, but I'm not that impressed. Alot of people here make MOTW the high water mark for visuals in a Neo game, but when I compare SS3 on my Neo to my MOTW on my DC, SS3 on my Neo all the way. So is alot lost in the port from Neo to DC?

Very little is lost in the port (i think the music cuts out at certain points, I cant remeber), it's just that motw is very popular around here I suppose.

during the port process it definitely lost its super violent punching sounds which are amazing in MVS/AES Garou.

I think the visuals are little sharper on the Neo...

But I don't think it's THAT great either. Good game, but the graphics are no where near the hype. I still think SF3 beats it. But you will get lots of people on both sides of the fence with this one...

Sf 3 has a more fps of drawn animation than garou but garou has such style and is fun to play, the caras in sf3 are weaker I think. The dc port is good but not great as the dc streaches neo games a bit.

I love SNK, but SF3 is definitely superior to MOTW in graphics and animation in my opinion.

i prefer it on the Neo. I had both the MVS cart and the DC version. The DC version has a "squished" image for VGA compatability and if you play with the arranged music on it has a delay in the hit sounds. The Geo one just looks fabulous and also no loading. buttrock

The Neo version is better. That sound isn't quite right in the DC version. I mean, they are both good, but the Neo just feels/seems better.

Gameplay wise, DC port is right.

Visually, I don't like it. Everything has a blurred look to it in order to cut down on pixelation. It's doesnt make the game any worse, of course, but little things like that bother me.

The sound is bad too. The voices dont sync (they are all indivdually loaded from disc for some stupid reason), the loads are sub SF3 quality, and the arranged soundtrack is a wash. Sounds bland, and lacks the punchiness of the orginal.

To get completely shallow, the packaging for the original DC game release in Japan is very nice. One of the most attractive ones Ive ever seen.

And you also get a very welcomed art gallery with a great Kyokugenryuu Dojo poster.

Overall, for the price you can get this game for in the US, it worth it. MOTW is a really fun, silly game that anyone can really enjoy.

Sticklers liker me have issue with it though.

P.S. SS3 is the best looking neo Game there is, right up there with AOF3 and shit. But MOTW looks amazing in its own ways too.

Much love for SS3. I believe is probably one of the most overlooked Neo games. Even I, a big Samurai Showdown fan, overlooked after 5-10 mins of play in the arcade, but now that I own it, much respect and love to the bastard child that is Samurai Spirits 3 buttrock

Now I gotta get my hands on a reasonably prices SS4 home cart loco

SF3 wins with the graphics and thes animations.
But MOTW has better caracters and most of all a better boss (I'll never forgive Capcom for putting such a lousy boss in a fighting game  !!! A blue and red guy with a G-string !! oh_no WTF Capcom !! blow_top )

But the two bosses are nothing to write about either. I think they were going for the whole Krauser thing, but it just wasn't as cool. Just about any game has a better final boss than SF3. It has to be one of the worst aspects of the game. They could have had more than one boss. The original had 4!

My pics for fav SF3 characters:

Alex
Hugo
Makoto
Dudley
Ryu
Ken
Akuma
Ibuki

Favs for MOTW:

Rock
Terry
Butt
Dong Hwan
Jae Hoon
Gato
Freeman
B.Jenet
Kevin
Grant (he's ok, but not boss material if you ask me)

Pretty even if you ask me, but the reason why SF3 gets a bad rap is because of all the throw aways, such as: Necro, Sean, and Gill.

Plus everyone is tired of Ken, Ryu, and Akuma.

The sound delay of loading voices directly off the disk is the main issue. The sound delay is worse in the U.S. version of the game than the Japanese version of the game. That's kind of annoying. Graphics are pretty decent, but definitely made for the VGA box, so I would imagine the TVs to make it look blurrier. In KOF2002 Playmore did something interesting. They seem to load different things depending on whether it was running in VGA as opposed to running on the TV. Even the load times change slightly. Something that was quite interesting and I would love to find out if they truly load different graphic sets for such an occassion.

But back to MOTW. It has some cute extras and the survival mode is definitely interesting. But the price is the big selling point of the game. Like the above poster said, the gameplay is still there, and that counts for a lot. Just that the sound syncing issues can throw you a bit. It's better to listen for the sound effects and not the voices unless it's a pose or something.

This game ownz SF3.

Even if I'm not a fan of it, I can see like anybody else that MOTW kicks SF3.

The main problem about all the hype in the graphics is the fucking disgusting palette.
The colors are very washed. they lack life in that game.

Definitelly would like fabulous is the colors were more warmer.

street fighter 3 is way superior overall. What is it about capcom that means they can up the difficulty on a basic old skool 2d fighter, instead of resorting to cheap ai or combos??

MOTW on the dreamcast lacks the sharp edge in graphics/sound that the aes version has.

Im picking up a street fighter 3 board for £80.

I don't know if I stated this, but I don't think its that different to consider not purchasing it. Buy it and either save up for the AES version or buy the MVS version which is like 50-70 buck.

Its been over a month since I posted this thread and I've been playing MOTW DC on and off, but I think I'm starting to get sick in the head. I think I'm turning hardcore Neo.

I've been seeing alot JPN MOTW home carts up for grabs lately and I keep on thinking "I can afford that, its a little more than a new release from the Neo store. I'll save some cash and buy it." Then I go back to my normal self and stick with my DC. One of these days I think I'm gonna break down. Am I going sick in the head? Why do I have this craving for ARCADE PERFECTION? Oh no, I hope not going to become an AEShole! SAVE ME!

Having played both the homecart and DC version a lot, the only differences are the stuff that people have already mentioned:

The graphics are a bit stretched (hard to really noticed, but being and art major, it is my job to noticed these things:p )
The music seems to be a bit off, but you have to be really anal to notice this.

That is about it, if you have the DC version, you are not really missing all that much, except the pleasure of being able to use the neo geo stick (which I love).

If you own the DC and want another version, go MVS. The only reason to buy the homecart is just to have another spine to jack off to. But then again, that seems to be the essience of the neo geo fan;)

I bet the Neo version is better...I don't have it yet, too expensive for me right now. I do have the DC version, can't seem to get used to playing a neo game with a pad...need my Mas Sticks.
