good music making software??

Hi All,

Does anyone know of any good music making software? I am looking for a software program to make custom music with; using samples of either waves or mp3's - Ive tried Mixman Studio Pro, and it really didnt impress me at all; its not what I am looking for. Can anyone give me some recomendations please??? Thanks in advance.

Maybe cakewalk? Or is that geared more towards midi stuff?
