i rather dislike this idea, something that seems to have come with that "hdd advantage"...looking at the list of things changed, it seems the patch applies more to fixes in the game and such...had it be some kind of patch to prevent gameshark users or some new quest and such i wouldnt mind...but its a fix for the game...not only that, but one you will be required to have to be able to continue to play...this is really something i didnt want to see in console games...and its part of the reason im not much on pc games....

Things up in square have not been going well as of late.

Also..Funny how alot of ps2/gc fanboys always thought the xbox would be the first to initiate a patch in there game.

I'm pretty sure the X-Box did it first... Wasn't there a patch in Japan for Dead of Alive 3 that had an extra stage, or like extra costumes for characters or something?

Well did you really expect them to give you new levels or charachters for free ? or anything else for that matter.

I suspect anything that will be downloadable or that you dont have to pay for will be nothing more than bug fixes.

After all they really just want your money !
So they will just pump another game out and you will go and buy it.

Even in the pc market most patches are bug just fixes.
I would assume thats why they are called a patch to begin with.

Fat chance neo goe game will get patches.

Quality control - an area with so little respect, yet so damn important in any industry, especially games.

The USA version of DOA 3 has a booster disc.

It's not a patch, it just gives you 2 extra costumes and 1 movie that were added to the JPN version of the game.

Tecmo only did it for the fans here, because the game sold so well, and they didn't want us to be left out since stuff was added to the JPN release, how many companies do you know that release extra's like that for free?

FF sucks, and it's funny people were saying XBOX games were gonna need patches, defrag the HDD etc, and look, it's Sony who's doing it, hehe. PS2 sucks.

I dread the day I have to uninstall a game from my console instead of just taking out the disc. :(

The patch will be free, as will the service (for the time being)

But yeah, I'm totally against consoles with hardrives, including the Xbox. It just defeats the point of plug in and play, ease of use. FFXI wont be the only game to recieve patches, expect more to come...

Your a troll.

The disc gives you the 2 extra costumes and extra cinema that were ADDED (as an incentive for Japanese people to buy it) to the Japanese version of the game.

A patch is required, this is not required, it's just a bonus from Tecmo to thank american fans you dumbshit.

Have fun with your POS2 you faggot ass whore.

uhh i don't care, becase i don't have a ps2. but that sucks major balls damn square. whatever happened to the cartridge you pop in and play with no load times and all kinds of cool stuff in a small package; plus games that can save into their own memory packs. i bet one day there will be games you have to pay to download and then after it's beaten, you lose it and have to pay for it if you want to play it again. no box or books or anything. just downloaded on to the console then lost as soon as you're done. ahh i can't stand it. a game with no manual or case how can that be, i just hope it's fiction and not the true future.

You do realize that this was *planned* long before the release, don't you? The idea is that the game will evolve as time goes on (more quests, better balance, etc).

It's impossible to guess how things are going to play out when 80,000 people get online with a game. Besides the added features (a buddy of mine actually sent me in game pictures he captured with the new update), I can't see how keeping things from getting out of hand is a bad thing.

I'd be worried if they were contstantly fixing bugs like PC games, but this is what I want to see. I'm starting to feel a little more confident that what happened to PSO on the DC won't happen to FFX. Unbalanced gameplay and cheaters...

yes, evolve is a good thing when its adding quest and such, as i said if you read...what i dont like is how it just fixes various bugs so short after release...there hasnt been any problem with people cheating and such...not that im aware of anyway...the idea is that with beta test you can get an idea of things, if there were any bugs in the game as said, they should have been fixed before hand then released...there is a difference between adding extras, and forcing players to conform to using them...out of any pso quest ive never been forced to do one...and ive never been forced to download anything for any of my console games...in that sense, you seem to miss the point...

You actually think Tecmo is trying to "thank" its fans?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Get real, man. Tecmo doesn't give two shits about the fans. If they did, we'd have actual nude Christy, Lei Fang, and Tina codes, and it would be made on other systems like the PS2, Game Cube, or Dreamcast. They couldn't even explain directly why they couldn't make the game for the DC or PS2 - they just gave a bullshit "it can't be done." Yeah, not doable when they put their wallets a mile in front of the fans, where MS could regulate them like little slaves. Tecmo sucks. Its a one game company, and that one game is a joke. God, I wish they could make a another 2D Tecmo Bowl.

There is one bug fix (a strange message when using a spell), and one gameplay fix that seemed like an oversight but wasn't necessarily a bug (delivering items to mog's house). I've seen worse in about a billion other games, from small releases to other Final Fantasy installments (item duplication in FF4 and sketching Gau in FF6, for example).

That's not to say a major bug couldn't be found, but this is relatively minor compared to a lot of other stuff. And the fact that the company is fixing it shouldn't be a negative.

All I'm saying is that if you're under the impression that most of console software (especially Japanese software) is bug-free, you should realize that it isn't.

Yeah, basically. If it were a bonus to thank fans, it would've been free (to those who sent in registration cards or something). As far as I know, you have to buy a 8 dollar magazine to get it...

Either way, Drifty isn't entirely stable, so quit agitating him or we'll see his picture in the post office.

of course, the fact that the disc was released by demand of gamers that said "hey, if the japanese version gets it? why dont we?" its really no different then how you seem to be looking at the ffxi patch...its odd that you can see one in one way, but the other in a completely different way, originaly the disc was suppose to contain some extra moves and such for characters, but was cut, dont recall why however...the fact that its optional is plus...everything cost money...its not required either...which is another plus...you dont have to spend the money for it if you dont want to...its your choice...robotech battlecry will have a collectors edition with various extras such as a shirt, tags, card, box set type packaging....ect....you also will be paying 80 dollars rather then 40....but its for fans...and fans will buy it...because fans think its worth it...i honestly dont see how either of you can be so quick to bash one idea, and then turn right around and defend a similar idea...honestly...if you dont have it, no need to dislike it...the xbox is no different then the psx was back in its begining days...

Well this will be a good thing if Japan can do the same .

God forbid the US version is better than the original Japanese version .....

They would have a TOTAL FIT !!!! and another remake would be released over there ((Final Fantasy XI international version))

Since FFXI is an Online RPG, I guess Square figures that patches are Par for the Course since so many online RPGS (except PSO) require you to download patches and shit. Of course, that could be that PSO was the ONLY console Online RPG before FFXI...

Drift King EX... thanks for the spam. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[LOL]" />

I guess we should all invest our $$$ in X-Boxes, where we can only get 2-5 enjoyable games? I think I'd rather wait until X-Box has some better games out (later this year) before jumping on that bandwagon.

(slightly off-topic)

What happened to the days when there was one version of a game and that's it? I wish developers would take their time, playtest thoroughly, and get it right the first time. As far as I'm concerned releasing an unpdated version of a game is just another way to milk consumers, and being able to patch a game is just another excuse to rush a product.

Examples: SFA2, SF2, Quake II, CvS, MGS, UMK3, MKT, countless DVDs.

Get it right the first time.
