NES Double Dragon II
Mega Drive Double Dragon II
PC Engine SCD Double Dragon II

Which version do you think it's the best overall?

I only played the NES version. I bet it's the only one with English language dialogues. Therefore it wins by default.

Sadly, the NES one. I had the misfortune of shelling out big cash back when this came out, and got a slowdown and tiny sprite-plagued little turd of a game for MegaDrive. Very, very sad, especially when we know that the MD is capable of FAR more. MD Double Dragon 2 isn't fit to carry Bare Knuckle's jockstrap. Never played the PC Engine one, but the same entity (Palsoft) was responsible for porting it, so I imagine it's the same bag of shit.

To me, PCE SCD DD II is far the best version yet
For odd reason, Gamefan mag didn't like it and told people to stay away from this title...hmmm....

Liquid the PCe version is the best version, especially the cd quality music, and the voice acting, but comparing it the nes versions is really wrong. They are almost two differnt games. Levels are laidout differnt and the feel is also very differnt.

Oh, the memories...

Back in the day I would obsess over a game I really wanted for months on end (because I was a poor kid with a $6/week allowance). That particular year it was Double Dragon II for the NES. I still remember opening it up that Christmas morning and seeing that badass box art (where he's holding that chick and whipping some dude at the same time). Popped in in there and couldn't be happier for the next six months until some fat little friend of mine stole it.

Bottom line - NES Double Dragon II kicks major ass!

the control and gameplay of the NES one is awesome. I would Love to get my hands on the PCE version if it remotely resembles the NES one.

I only ever played the NES DD II, but it was excellent!

Don't forget that if you play by yourself, put it on 2 players and beat the shit out of the 2nd player. You get the characters lives when you kill them.

You can get a copy (no box/no instructions/no slip cover) on eBay for ~$5.00 here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1358709590

HEHE !

NES Version rocks. There's also an Amiga500 Version of Double Dragon II. I can't remember how bad it was, I only played once or twice and it was about 11/12 years ago.

Mega drive version was a decent port. It had the nice controls of the arcade, the levels too. I'll have to play it again tonite.

I have not played the PCE CD version yet. Maybe next time I go to Verbatium's I'll have to try that.

The NES version was a great game! Highlights include fighting on the plane - when the door opens, enemies (and sometimes, you!) fly out! I hated those disappearing platforms. Inventive Idea, tho!

The PCE Duo version of Double Dragon II is by far the best port, but slowdown aside I think that the Megadrive version is a close second since it actually is closer to the arcade game feel... but then the PCE Duo version has those nifty cut scenes, and... Oh damn, now I've gotta' head over to my friend's house to play the PCE version since I have still not tracked down a copy of my own. The only question that has bothered me over the years concerning Double Dragon is why the characters name were changed to Billy and Jimmy Lee when they were Spike and Hammer in the Arcades?

Best way to own Double Dragon II is to get the PCB of it though.

My pick goes to the NES version. It just has some great solid play, and you really felt the hits connect when you planted your foot in the guys face! I think I have to go track that down now!

I've only played DD2 on NES, but I saw the review in Game Fan for the PCE and wanted to play it since.

I pick Commodore Amiga DD2 as best port.
