I actually just bought it, and dig it immensely. It's a very refreshing break from the "impossible pink bullet spray" school of shooter design that has plagued arcades lately. It's quite tough, but with continued practice and sharpened skill, can be slowly mastered. I find myself getting a bit further each time. The game has fifteen stages, and some beefy CPS2 tunes. Very simple controls, just bomb and shot. By holding shot, you can 'charge' your loop move, then unleash it to bust a loop, fly high, and unleash a massive barrage. Lots of hidden targets and bonus items to find. It displays horizontally too, so those with SuperGuns or Sigmas can easily play it on the telly. Bitchin' game, and a worthy addition to the 194X series. Not as graphically lush as 19XX, but a solid game in its own right.

I use to play it in the arcade at my college, I liked it a lot... Very solid shooter, doesn't look to bad either :)

Dude, if you have an ounce of soldering skill, it can be done. My buddy cut his teeth doing his first one on a Super Turbo B board, which was of course, insanely necessary. It worked like a charm, and will now live another 5-7 long wonderful years. Those Capcom classics are definitely worth the 20 minutes of security screw bravery! 1944 is still relatively new (copyright 2000) so I won't have to fuck with it for a while.
