I have in the past and I really didn't mind it but I'll take a mixed club anyday but anyway.

Any of you guys ever go to a club that caters to a specific race, be it Black or Asian (mostly)? How did you feel about it? The few I've been to had maybe 400 or so people with about 20 or so non Asians (myself, some other Whites and a couple Blacks) and while I kinda felt uneasy the peeps there didn't seem to mind so my shit was on. I got funny looks waiting to get into the club but the doorman didn't hesitate to grab my nuts during the routine weapon pat down nor did the chick hesitate to take my cover charge. Maybe because I was with this half-Asian dude I chill with sometimes?

Anyway I got invited to this club tonight and I know it's going to be fuckin 99% Asian and I was wondering if any Asians here have come across this situation and what you thought of it? What do you think when you see a non Asian chillin in one of your clubs?

And remember, I'm clubbin in So Cal (LA) so I don't want to run into some hard ass Asian thugs who wanna jab my ass. :D

okay so what if there was a white club? it'd be racist right. just wanting to know. i mean there are asian clubs, and black clubs. so what about white clubs or is that in bad taste, and considered segregation? i mean these clubs cater to a specific race moreso than others roght? and is there a club that has a higher population of white folks almost 99% as you said. that still allowes other racial groups in, and if so is it legal for them to stay open?

Well...

About a year or so ago, a few friends of mine and I decided to follow the advice of one of our more ill-informed cohorts and hit up, in his words, a 'poppin' place in Koreatown called Klub Tekno (or something to that effect). It was in the Los Angeles area, and we got there roughy 10:30 or some time around that.

It must be something either about the LA social climate in general, or perhaps I'm just that laid back, but it really wasn't out of the ordinary at all. Granted I'm not really into the music these DJs spin, but the whole vibe was just like any other club, really. No pretense, no out-of-place-"ness" whatsoever.

But for some odd reason (and I type this because you refer to the So-Cal area), the little stretch of Japanese businesses on Sawtelle and Olympic always piques a certain feeling.

And despite this part being somewhat off topic, it's still worth noting. The next day after our visit to KT, the following conversation took place between a friend of mine and some random bubbly blonde chick...

Friend: A few homies and I hit up some random place callled 'Klub Tekno,' and we had to park about three blocks away because the parking was horrendous.
Bubbly Blonde: Really?!? I had a friend that got shot there last week!

You just can't make this stuff up...

Dunno dude but I feel that way about a lot of shit. Like I brought up that same tpic regarding school sororities and shit like that a while back. Like at my school 90% of the frats are Asian with some Black only too. No White only though. That's understandable to an extent because as recent as 40 or so years ago many minoriities were not allowed to join "Greek frats" but I think the barriers are all but gone now and so should "race specific" clubs and frats.

Yeah it would be racist if a "White only" club were to pop up. It would prolly be burned to the ground within a week. Every member of a "White only" frat would prolly be murdered within a week as well. Don't really know why that is, especially in a world that is constantly bitching about racism and shit when minorities are the ones doing the segregating these days (in the US at least).

Anyway, Cracker, did your story have to do with a race-specific club or were just at a club that some dude was shot at a week before?

'Race-specific' clubs are extremely uncool places because they're full of dumbass people who have obviously been brought up in some sheltered ass environment where their horizons are about as broad as a fucking piece of dental floss.

I mean, c'mon, I live in SoCal too, and I've known Asians who actually went to these types of clubs- they're full of clueless 'scenester' FOBS and chrurch-going 'Yes mother, yes father' sheltered kids.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a pathetic asian club, mainly because the people in there are like, REALLY uncool and unhip- and the only reason I would even consider going (Asian chicks) is pointless because the chicks in there are either all racist or too brainwashed/sheltered to be interested in anyone who's last name isn't Park or Kim. Oh- and the music sucks shit there too.

As far as the black clubs, one time me and some friends went to this one club without realising it was 'Black' night. We figured it out in line (When we felt our asses might be kicked) and high-tailed it out of there. :)

The place (today it has a different name) is located in a predominatey Korean neigbhorhood with many-a-Korean business around it (Western Avenue by the 10 FWY if you're familliar with the area). The clientel was majority Korean, but there were some other faces there too. All things considered, it was quite "Korean."

As for the shooting, it was just a side story that took place somewhere nearby that same club. I'm just glad we weren't part of that course of events.

Actually that hasn't been my experience with Asian clubs. Mostly they seem to consist of rice riders and Asian sluts, basically all the well-dressed "gangster" Asians you see all over Orange County. And I only go to clubs that play good music dude, and the three times I've been to an Asian club I think hard house was the pick of the night, and that shit rocks. :D

Also, I find quite the opposite to be true regarding the Asian chicks. I always just thought it was because i was one of the few White dudes there but there are always fucking hitting on me. They aren't even shy about it either they would just walk right up to me and be like sup? I've been asked what nationality I was like a half a dozen times or so in places like that though, mostly by the chicks.

Still I definately stand out and it isn't because of my pimp ass clothes. I like the attention but sometimes it feels like I get a little too much in race-specific clubs. crying

Dude I'm fuckin crazy looking, especially on nights that I'm clubbing. I have this pimp ass redish black hair (natural color) that's all spikey and shit all the time like I got electrocuted when I was a baby. Plus my eyes are always huge and dialated and fucking electric blue.

Plus it's all about the clothes dude. When I go dancing I got the 32" wide pants on with some GQ shirt that either flows from the pants into some wicked ass glasses or just cuts it right there and lets my hair do the rest. It's gotta be dramatic though. I can go street if the club is casual or get hardcore with some baggy ass bondage pants if people want to play dress up. Plus I'll still tear shit up on the dancefloor while they sit there and try to look pretty.

Double plus, I live the life boy. Think Hansel from Zoolander. lmfao

I would take my pic if I had a decent digicam, even though I'm afraid of putting it up on the net. tickled

BTW peeps, I'm not going to that club tonight. Called him up and said fuck it cuz I'm feeling too uncomfortable. :D

Good decision on your part for not going,Feel Good.Them asians clubs ain't nothing but a bore. You'd probably run into some ignorant Asian Boyz or one of them asian wannabe gangsters wanting to pull your card for no good reason. As stupid as they look, they wouldn't hesitate to pull that trigger. The only thing you'll probably miss out on would be the cute asian broads. As for feeling uneasy about going to one,you shouldn't be.I always go to a mostly white, black, and hispanic clubs all the time, and no one trips.I do bring the heat with me though, because like they say"better caught with one than caught without one".L.A. is no joke,my friend.Everytime me and my crew go out, atleast one of us are strapped. It's just reality, that's all.

Since you mentioned being afraid of getting stabbed by an Asian gang in the club...

Hang out with those well-dressed "gangsters" as you called them.

Odds are they are one of those Chinese gangs.

That's basically just a bunch of rich Chinese guys that get a lot of money from their parents and drive really nice cars. Thug 4 Life, werd.

i know racism has toned down, but i'm saying that these "asian" clubs exist and they aren't considred racist, but if a white club were made it'd be burned down in a week. society is biased as hell and this example just proves it.

Well, most white people can't fucking dance.

So that is a big reason why we don't have all
white clubs, that and most middle class/ upper
class white kids are too stiff. I used to go
to a private school for the better part of my
life and dancing is something they only do if
everyone is drunk. Even in college, same deal.

Unless booze are involved, I won't even try to
do a fucked up "wooble" on the dance floor lol.

I know exactly which area of Sawtelle and Olympic you're talking about, I used to work a block away on Olympic.

Actually, I think the feeling your getting is the sort of xenophobia that the more recent Japanese immigre community gives off (that's not to pick out the Japanese, it applies to any group that's recently come from a homogeneous nation where all you ever see is your own race). I don't think they mean it to be offensive (in the case of Japanese culture, it's just a sort of dry coldness that's there to begin with), but you can't help but notice it. With that said, I used to frequently visit Volcano Tea in that little area.

The fact that LA has the biggest communities of Japanese, Koreans, Chinese (and more) outside of their respective countries allows the immigrint communities to voluntarily shelter themselves from other groups -which leads to "weirdness" (for lack of a better term) when a person stumbles into a club that caters to the more sheltered community.

There's actually a very recent Somali community here in the Twin Cities that's, due to how recent it formed (and how many are here) is actually a bit insulated from both the general (very white) population as well as the African-American community. Studies have usually shown that this sort of insulation dissapates by the 1st or 2nd generation (starting with those born here, and disappearing by the time those people have kids)

With that said, as a few have already noted, there are a lot of people within those ethnic groups that normally socialize out of the culture, but occasionally like to go to their own style of club. It's just tradition to some folks (although the music isn't much different than any other place :) ).

Damn, all this talk makes me miss LA... Oh well, I'll be back soon enough.

I've got a good friend who is at Columbia U in NY City, and this past weekend he and I were at the other tea shop (located within the Plaza) as I struggled to come to grips with the standard issue variety of Boba.

But yeah- I'm in part, if not full, agreement on the generational measuring stick, and how it takes a while to 'branch' away from the nucleus of a familliar culture and into the 'mainstream.' And, at least in my opinion, there's so much overlap in LA between styles and culture that you're gonna end up sampling some non-'home-grown' flavors at some time.

And with that in mind, a trip to Hurry Curry right now might be in order.
