Hey,
Some of you might've seen this in 1999, I posted this once on Dolphinlord's Domain.
http://thevendor.mit.edu/2slot

This is a 2 slot MVS I converted to play on a home TV a while ago. It's been sitting in the closet while I've been at school, but I just dusted it off.

It has all the fixin's such as test switches, AES bios, coin/pause switches, stereo, composite, svideo, and GOOD RGB(bypassing the CXA)

The entire board is encased in piano gloss black plexiglass, with no protruding PCB anywhere. I was going to make cart slot flaps too but I got lazy. The joysticks have weighted bases. (Taken off for the pic)

Basically, I was thinking of making one or two more, and was wondering how much someone would pay for an item like this. I have to say, I don't think I will make joysticks as well. They're just a pain in the ass to make, and well, honestly I like the neo cd controllers the best anyway.

When I built this, I didn't know of the jrok converter board, so I built my own RGB->NTSC board and had PCBs fabbed. I've prototyped a new converter that also does component(YPbPr) output, but if I'm only going to make one or two more it's not worth it to get boards fabbed so they wouldn't have component video. YPbPr does look mighty nice though. Anyway, thanks for looking.

PS: Anyone want to sell me a MV-1C or MV-1FZ? :-D

Nice looking ! good job !

How did you make your own RGB->NTSC converter ?

Very nice.
But don´t you get temperature-issues using this kind of shell ?
And how is this thing powered ? (internal ?)

Nice board you got there, I think I saw this a while ago back when I was building my own Supergun.

Why'd you have your PCB's fabbed for your RGB circuit? I did my own on a stock radioshack board and it came out as good as I hoped for.

Very sweet system, it's a whole lot smaller than mine, but I think I've found a way to make much smaller joysticks (going to be rebuilding the ones in those pics soon), just use a pre-built plastic enclosure and drill from there.

Anyway as far as charging for these things go, it's a bit of a push, but if you can have a RGB converter that outputs component video I'm sure you'll find an anal collector or two who might snatch up that system. :D

Hey thats really nice. I reall like the way you leave nothing exposed on the 2 slot, unlike a lot of the other consolized 2 slots. I do agree the controllers do seem a little big but whatever works. And mad props to making your own rgb->ntsc converter, when i built my supergun i bought a jrok :) I dont think im hardcore enough to make my own rgb converter.

Thanks for the feedback.
I purposely made the joysticks a bit big because sometimes I get a bit wild with my stick and on the smaller sticks I end up rubbing my wrist/arms a lot against the corners if its too small.

When I built the converter I reverse engineered the spec to get the circuit, so I made mine with a bunch of discretes and video op amps, I didn't use the analog devices chip. (can someone verify this for me, the jrok board uses the ad chip?) It's a lot more complicated but you can fine tune the picture perfectly, sometimes there's the effect where certain colors have noise, or
seem spatially ofset from others, well it can all be tuned. I had the boards made, because, well, it's neo geo and it deserves the best. :)

There's no overheating problem I encountered. I only powered it with 5v as I recall... or maybe I used 12v too, but the major source of heat I found was the audio amp and I disabled that, and I think that's the only device which uses the 12v.

WOW, that is one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. I think the piano gloss finish looks great, and the whole thing is an excellent size. I like the chrome look of the pinouts too. Beautiful work there :)

Can we have the schematic of your RGB->NTSC converter? please multi_co

Thanks, I don't have the original schematics but I am designing a new one anyway so when that's done I'll post it. Honestly, the AD solution is much easier... high bandwidth video using discretes is tricky esp. on protoboards.

eek! eek! eek!

I want one :) (though I can't afford one at the moment).

Bleh I shouldn't have clicked on this post. I used to own a MAS Systems Super Nova but I loaned it to a friend and never saw it again :(.

Ok folks,
I think I've decided I'm going to make 5 identical models. There's going to look like this, I.E. complete plexiglass enclosures. They'll have the cps2shock bios, s-video, and component output. Any other things it should have? I suppose I could go all Apple and release them in 5 colors... haha, "buy an iNeo in blueberry, lime, grape, strawberry, or FRUITY..."

Here's my dillema: I really want to make them one slots. Mostly because they're smaller(and therefore infinitely cuter) and also cuz, well, cutting one cartridge slot is easier than two, and my old one was a two slot so i want to try something new, you get a workout switching carts, etc.

I read a thread about how the one slots wouldn't work with RoTG, glitches, and whatnot. But it turned out that these problems were universal to all models, no? I want to use MV-1A boards, just because I can get them in quantity.

Does anyone know the exact differences between the 1FZ and 1A? Like when they came out. I read on hardmvs.com a current draw difference. What the hell is up with the 1A drawing 3 amps, and the 1FZ drawing 7 amps? is there an air conditioner or hair dryer hidden in the 1FZ that we don't know about? That's more than the 6 slots draw, isn't it?

Anyway, people please answer my questions so I can go about buying the boards and fabbing the enclosures.

Mvs draws a lot of current !
But 7 amps for a one slot it's a lot !

I think it's too much !
I believe there's a mistake... eek!
