Ok, it's been very political in here this week. Before it wears off, I want to get your thoughts on Joe Lieberman. If you don't know, Joe has been leading the charge against our favorite pastime since the days of Mortal Kombat. If he had his way, video games for the Adult gamers would suck, to put it bluntly.

Joe Lieberman is going to be running for President of the US in 2004. Considering the field of politicians he will be competing against in the Primaries, he has an OK chance of getting the nod. With Gore out of the running, its anything goes.

He is also a Jewish American, which, whether you want to believe or not is very important to voters. Which brings me to the point of this thread. Hypothetically, if he is the Democratic Candidate for President in '04, it could be an embarrasing loss for him at the voting booth.

My reasons for thinking this? Well, what is the most important vote in the Democratic Party? The Black Vote. That's all we hear about. Democrats get 90% of the Black Vote, they tell us that over and over. BLACKS DO NOT VOTE FOR JEWS. And I don't want to hear about some Black guy you know who would vote for Joe, because the truth is the majority of Blacks will not turn out for a Jewish candidate. Now, that doesn't mean they will vote Republican either. There's always the Independant option.

Reason #2 Joe will lose, which pertains to me and you, the videogame players. Now, don't laugh, you might think I'm fucking crazy, but I'll explain the best I can. Sony says the average age of todays' Video Gamer is 25. Which means gamers have grown up and vote now. The videogame entertainment industry is one of the Largest Money Making Machines in the world. I don't know the exact figures, but I've read that the Videogame Industry makes more money in profits than all of Hollywood, Television, and the Music Industry COMBINED. Even during last years recession, Videogame sales increased over the previous year. We are huge people. We have to number in the tens of millions. Thats alot of votes.

Are you going to vote for Joe Lieberman, who the first chance he gets, will have blood and violence removed from our games? Even if their was opposition and Constitutional rights issues holding him back, His firm belief that our games are causing us to become criminals and violent people would cause him to use all his power to do Something. There is no one else in the Senate/Congress that has fought videogames the way this man has for the last 11 years.

Looking over the political threads here, there are many different views, both left and right, present here. But the one thing that binds us together ladies and germs is Videogames, I know it sounds geeky but I don't care. No matter how much one might hate another on these boards due to differences in political ideology, I'd bet not one of you would turn down the chance to play a game of cooperative Metal Slug with that person. I know I wouldn't. Just think if Joe Lieberman said we couldn't play Metal Slug type games because they are too violent and gory.

I may be crazy, but I think Joe Lieberman would lose alot of votes from gamers who are Democrat voters. Add on the loss of the Black Vote and you've got one heck of an embarrassment to explain. But, some of you I suppose will say videogames aren't that important to you that you would consider voting different, thats cool to.

I want to say that I'm not trying to tell people how to vote. I want to know what you think. If the Anti-Videogame Joe Lieberman was running against Bush and some Independent, would you factor into your voting decision the fact that Joe Lieberman dislikes your favorite hobby?

I'm voting for Bush next time around (gee who didn't see that coming?), and honestly I don't think the Democrats are going to get anywhere in 2004. Bush's numbers are so high right now and if this whole War keeps on tredging along who's gonna vote against a war time president? In US history I don't think its ever happened before.

Also, even if I wasn't a republican I'd most definitely vote against Liberman cause of his games issues. Honestly the ONE Democrat nominee who I have the most respect for is the Rev. Al Sharpton. I donno if he'd win, but I like him a lot more than the rest of them.

I can defeat this notion with one simple fact: The 11 Jewish US Senators (9 dems, 2 reps).

Those 9 Democratic races are not all "gimmie" races, they count on individuals getting their butts out into the polls. The Black Vote does. Black voters did not desert the party in 2000 (as the popular vote shows), and if anything -losses were to the Green party, but they weren't noticably black voters.

Moving to the general voting population, I found an AP article the phrased another interesting fact about the viability of a Jewish candidate: "A half-century ago, a leading magazine editor dubbed Minnesota's largest city, Minneapolis, 'the capital of anti-Semites.' But in five straight elections for one of the state's two Senate seats, a Jew has won even though Minnesota is less than 1 percent Jewish."

This includes both the late Sen. Paul Wellstone (D) and the current Sen. Norm Coleman (R).

There's a similar situation in Wisconsin (with a 0.5% Jewish population)

now this points to one of two polar theories (with people falling all in between the two):
(1) Jews are trying to take over the US
(2) Jewish candidates are addressing topics people want to hear, and reelect.

I do agree there is some effect of being Jewish on a candidates chances, but I think its thankfully getting less and less.

I for one am not at all looking forward to this election. I hate Bush, but I also have an even older dislike for Lieberman. methinks I'll "throw my vote away" with a third party. either way, the four years following the election will be the darkest yet for me.

Out of Bush and Leiberman, i'd pick....ROSS PAROT!
It's way to early to tell who the democratic nominee will be. I don't think it will be Leiberman.

The democratic party should be ashamed of fools like Joe Lieberman and Tom Daschle, who are nothing more but puppets controlled by others to be the constant voice of republican opposition. If the democrats had any sense they would start putting all their eggs behind John Kerry NOW, as he is, bar none, the smartest of all the upcoming candidates and certainly the best thing thats happened to that party in, well, 11 years.

That said, I'm sure I'll still vote for Bush come '04. buttrock

I certainly hope the democratic party can get a better candidate then Joseph Lieberman. I for one am not going to vote for Lieberman unless he can somehow bring about a lasting world peace within the first 10 days of being in office, but since i highly doubt that he won't get my vote. Lets hope for a better Democrat candidate in 2004.

Presidents do not take office and just start making all sorts of crazy laws simply because they're the President. Members of Congress get more laws made than the President himself. I have confidence that any bill that Lieberman attempted to pass concerning videogame content while being in office wouldn't make it past the Senate floor.

Bobak, come on, trying to say that Jews getting elected in Minnesota and Wisconsin doesn't prove that Blacks showed up in record numbers to get them in office. I mean, those two states aren't exactly overflowing with Black people. Lieberman is from Conneticut, an almost all White state. Where are all the southern Jewish Senators? There are none. Not one. How about Jewish Congressmen in the South? There are a wopping two. Martin Frost(D-TX),Robert Wexler(D-FL). I think that backs up my case pretty good. The balance of Jews in the Senate and Congress are mostly in New York(big suprise), California, Massachussets, and other Northern states.

Ah yes, but there are far more black people in those two states than Jews, and some these races come close enought that the extra "omph" of the black vote throws candidates over the top -particularly when you consider that low voter turn out is prevalent, it's a matter of get-out-the-vote, something that two groups (in the Democratic party) do better than anyone else: the African American community (centered around, ironically enough in this context, churches) and the Union vote.

yeah really, Bill might be a good president, but a war time president, I think he be running to the hills. As for the Joe thing, he's an idiot, he wants to probably remove anything remotely violent pertaining to tv, movies, music, and games...that should be on his secret agenda and not said a damn word on it.

What? :(

But I liked American Psycho (where I assume its from)

It's Christian Bale: Star of such other films as Empire of the Sun (when he was a kid) and Reign of Fire? Then again, he did play a Jewish kid in Swing Kids. Oh boy, that takes me back...

um.... I thought Gore came back and said that he was running now. I mean he changed his mind 7-8 times now... is he or is he not running?

Hopefully bush gets the seat again.
He has my vote for Pres! You gotta give him credit... he has filled the spot well... he has had one of the toughest president terms out of all the president's....

No so you can put the gun down Phoenix.

But seeing as to how I hate bush and didn't vote for his ass last time( damn you Jeb!!!! ) I'm sure as hell don't plan on voting for his ass next time. Joe is so much of an idiot he makes other idiots look good so I'm not even thinking of voting for him. Bill was an ok president but nothing happened during his two terms if you exclude the monica & star thing so who knows what he's like under pressure. I said that cause out of those two I like him more, so in '04 I'll either go with someone else when i read up on what said person is about or in worse case scenerio not vote at all.......scratch that not voting thing on second thought

Too true, then he'd probably send a bunch of troops to iraq to get horribly mutilated. "What you don't see won't hurt ya, right"

I was pretty sure Tony Blair wasn't Jewish, but I looked his name up at www.jewhoo.com and his name didn't appear on their list. Neither did your avatar Christian Bale.

And just for anyones information, www.jewhoo.com is not an anti-jew site, its actually a Jewish Pride site. It's a nifty resource to check if your wondering if anyone famous is Jewish, and it will tell you Jewish actors real birth names. Such as Winona Ryder's real last name is Horowitz...etc..

This was the best thing to come from this thread.

I used to be in love with Winona Horowitz. :p

Save for maybe "stormfront" or some explicit "all[whatever]MustDie", I hope most people visit a source before the bash it (like that whole Christian Science Monitor mistake in a previous thread)
