It's hoped the technology will be useful for surgeons frustrated their own hands and surgical tools can block their view of operations and pilots who wish cockpit floors were transparent for landings.
I can only see problems with surgeons cutting off their fingers inside a patient and not being able to find them afterwards...

Actually in the case of surgeons I think you would only need to make their hand translucent not totaly transparent.

Reading the article it sounds like it works on the same idea that they had said the Bond car in Die Another Day works on. Not that such cars exsist.
