OK, its not like FFS needs another write up about how great it is, but I just feel the need to express my experience with it so far. I am just preaching to the choir, but it still may be interesting to new members as we have plenty of those.

With SVC:Chaos on the horizon, I feel the need to re-visit the fighting game genre, as SVC is sparking renewed interest in fighters for me. I thought I better 'brush up' on the mechanics a bit. I got FFS a couple weeks ago, and after some hefty playtime I am extremely happy with this game. I have always been into the Capcom fighting games, but not as a fanboy, just that Street Fighter 2 was where the competition was, so I always liked SF2 and SFA series.

I would like to point out some things that I like about FFS over SF2CE.
-Better, more inspired characters. Even though there are similarities between the fighters of these two games, FFS shows no 2 fighters that are simply palette swaps (Ken Ryu).

-Better Backgrounds: This is where FFS kicks SF2CE's ass all up and down the fucking block. The backgrounds are so cool, with such neat things going on that I sometimes get distracted watching something. I absolutely think that Tung Fu Rue's background is the coolest, at least at the beginning when it pans down from the sky. There is also interaction with the backgrounds thanks to the 2-plane gameplay of FFS. I thought it was funny to knock the moped guy off his moped in Kims stage. Worst background is Laurence, I just think the Bulls running nonstop is just cheesy..it should of had a bullfight going on in the background or something.

-Characters are more balanced: I like how the characters have better counter attacks than whats found in SF2CE. For instance, instead of the Dragon Punch countering ANYTHING, each character in FFS seems to have good moves to get out of a corner or whatnot. What I mean is, its not hopeless, whereas in SF2, you can Dragon Punch out of any situation..thats just not fair or balanced.

-Music is awesome: I like Tung Fu Rue's music the best. When I finally got to Krausers stage (On Easy, I suck so far, give me time) I thought the music was pretty good, but it didn't bring a tear to my eye, like I've seen people mention before. But thats cool, I think its awesome that this game could spark such a reaction from people.

Well, I've had no problems with hit detection, however I'm having problems coming to grips with the Supers. Those are hard to do. Right now I'm just trying to master one character at a time, and the only one I'm using right now is Joe Higashi. I have yet to hit anyone with the Screw Upper super. Every time I try it, the opponent just plane shifts and avoids it. Not to mention its kind of hard to pull off the move anyway.

Some of the characters I've toyed around with that will be next on my list to master are Duck King and Tung Fu Rue. Those guys are just so unique, I have to figure em out.

Awesome game, I know it won't really prepare me for SvC:Chaos, but it will help me pass the time until then.

I agree with everything except character balance. Kim and Jubei own FFS so hard it's not even funny. Still though, FFS has more to offer than many of the earlier SF games.

I personally thought FF2/S was a joke.

The punching and smacking noises are laughable, as is the difficult gameplay (harder than FF1 or FF3).

The computer really whips your ass unless you play cheaply and use long range moves or projectiles.

Spot on, Wes.

FFS is a true gem among 2D fighters, in every aspect. Very good gameplay, nice graphics (for the time), cool sound (the Krauser stage music alone is worth the purchase) and a cool roster. If there would be one Neo fighting game I'll never ever would give away, it would be FFS.

It's correct that Jubei and Kim rule them all, specially Jubei is nothing less than a monster. By throwing cookies and doing hard sweeps at the right time, you can own all the other fighters for free vs CPU, on any diff setting.

But still, it's awesome how much fun this game is when played by 2 ppl, and how elaborated and deep the engine is, it clearly was way ahead of its time when it came out and it still shines.

GunstarHero, I agree that some of the supers are hard to pull off. Timing is very tight and most of the commands aren't of the simple qcfx2 type, but IMO this makes them even more exciting to use because you can't simply jump in for a cheap super, there's much more strategy involved.

Fatal Fury 2/Special is a game which is no joke. It's one of the harder games on the Neo. But, it's a good old game, and it can be bought for pretty cheap. So, it's a good game, but you need a lot pratice on it to master it.

This is trully a masterpiece.

That game came out just after all those ultra hyped SF2 games.

Solid gameplay, one of the GREATEST soundtracks ever ( there is not shit anywhere ), cool cast and sill can play with/against Ryo.

The graphics are still cool even after 10 years.

This game will always have the first place in my heart.
