For anyone old enough to remember, what are your thoughts on the Milli Vanilli deal??

I am in the minority, but I found a good deal of inspiration from their story when I heard about it. It had tragedy, glamor, glory, fame, illusions, deceit, etc.

In the end it was a story about two ambitious dreamers looking for the American Dream so to speak, and ended up making a deal with the devil. Their dream... turned into a nightmare. It's a hell of a story.

Anyone saw the VH1 "Behind the Music" look on them? Awesome production by VH1.

One of them died (Rob Pilatus) in 1998 by the way. He was the one who went to 11 drug rehab treatments. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore... he couldn't outlive the dark clouds lingering over his head in the form of Milli Vanilli.

Your thoughts on the whole scandal and whatnot.

I never really liked their music, so I didn't really care when they turned out to be phony.

I did get a laugh out of all the poeple who returned or threw out their records, though; I mean, you either enjoy the music or not.

mmmmmmm, milli vanilli are an interesting case.

There singles proved in sales to be passable pop, though i was never a fan, i could see the appeal.

I've never had a problem with "performers" doing other peoples songs, being an "act", those who nay say are sad musical snobs.

I think that they caused great scandal, but had a good thing going. The fat that they got found out was a great thing for uk music, as from there on, there had to be a live element to performances on hit show "top of the pops".

They kicked ass. No lie. I was gutted when Rob died cuz he died not long after the VH1 thing and they both seemed to be doing fine.

Yeah, Rob died shortly after the interview.
He made an eerie foreshadowing of his death,
did you know that?

He was quoted as saying in December of 1997,
"If I stay on the loser side, I must leave
this life. If I can't make the most of this
last chance, then I must leave."

Last I heard he was upbeat and going back to
Germany to make music with Frank Farian, but
somewhere I guess he had enough.

Close friends of Rob's say he really died back
on that day in 1990 when the truth came out --
and that he took a fatal drop from the heights
of superstardom.

As for Fabrice, he's 37 or 38 now, and last I
saw him he was on "Celebrity Boot Camp." He also
writes and sings his own songs now.
He's got a lot of natural talent.

The Milli Vanilli music was a little lightweight,
and maybe even campy, but it was pretty catchy
I'll admit. It fitted the time.

I won't lie, back when they hit the scene I liked their stuff, in fact despite them being fake I did like the sound of the actual guys singing the songs. Then again I was 11/12 at the time too.

It shouldn't have even been that big of a deal, except that they won GRAMMYS! If you know how much production and fabrication goes into any pop star.... It's really no big deal. I mean, who cares if the people who made the music wanted to stick these two as the performers? The ONLY wrong thing was listing them as the singers. A bunch of people made some music and got these guys to be the stars. Rob and Fab did everything the industry asked them to and got the short end of the stick in the end by being humiliated.

Anyone remember the Super Mario Show with them? It came out like days before the scandal I think...

Its amazing those who aspire to be the most fashionable and trendy eventually end up being the most outdated and unfashionable.
They were cool in 1988-89, they were very popular in england and the US it seems.
Its like the vast majprity of musicians, they become associated with one period of time and its hard to break out of that.

A few do, like MJ, Kylie Minogue, but look at the infinetly more talented than milli vanilla , artists who dont, eg Teddy Riley and Shabba ranks.

They are associated with the late 80's /early 90;s new jack swing and dancehall years

I still have a few cassettes around here from them.

Did they ever show who the actual singers of their songs were?
Who were they again?

The actual singer was ONE person, some really uncool looking fat guy glee

And I even remember them singing for REAL to save their reputation.. Man that was truely awful.

But for the time they were pretty cool, I used to like it. I even remember trying to copy their moves :)

They even made a self mock commercial for Big Red. Where they lip sync to an opera song "how long does the taste of Big Red last?" **record skips** "till these guys sing themselves"
