Is anybody getting this? It comes out on April 10. It looks pretty sweet. Haven't had a new vertical shooter in awhile. Anybody know if it will ever be released in the U.S.?

I'll get this for sure if it comes out in the U.S. My PS2 isn't modded, so if it doesn't, I'll just chalk it up to one more shooter that never came over, and move on . . .

I definately want to because I have both Donpachi and DoDonpachi on the import Saturn and have looking forward to this title, but I also do not have a modded PS2. I'll either have to wait for a U.S. release or break down and just mod it or buy a modded system because it is my favorite shooter. Thanks you Cave! :D

Same here. I'll probly eventually buy a JAP PS2...i mean, there are tons of JAP PSone games I'm dying to play anyways...and a few PS2 [like akira psychoball]

Still, 300$ is a hit.

WHY?! Why can there not be a simple solution for playing imports (read: boot disc) on the PS2?! It's the one major thing keeping me from actually buying one myself. There just aren't enough quality titles I'm interested in without importing to justify buying one.

Oh well, I'll play everyone elses in the meantime and wait until they're $50. :D

Honestly, I will probable never get to do more with this game then watch the videos :( I have barley enough intrest in my PS2 any more, let alone geting another that is an import oh_no

Anyways, I am also excited about the Raiden Fighters Evo, but again I have no Idea if this will get a us Xbox release drool_2 Raiden Fighters if by far my favorite series. I can almost one credit RF at the arcade, but my visits are so sparatic that unfortunatly the later levels evade my memory (and quarters).

Thanks Verbatum!

I'm also thinking of picking up XII Stag (and Made in Wario for GBA, but that's a whole 'nuther thread) from ncsx, vert Taito shooter that looks pretty solid. I'd love to see some video of this one :)

I'm also looking foward to Raiden Fighters, Sharpermc, although that would mean that I would finally have to spring for a Japanese X-Box... I hope the port is good, that would definately convince me to buy an X-Box sooner than expected, but there has been such a lack of information on this one. Supposedly there going to be revamping the graphics (not sure about that, and if they do, I hope there is an option to have the original graphics). And I would like to try Shikigami no Shiro Evolution as well! buttrock

Crap, why must Sony be so good at making it hard to play imports???

I really don't wanna buy a JPN PS2, but it seems like that's prolly the best way to go if I wanna play some of the cool PS2 imports (Like DonPachi and Stag).

Hmmmm, I wonder how cheap you can get a Japanese PS2 these days?

I've been debating over buying a limited edition color import system. I can't justify spending over $300 just top play a couple games.

Neither could I TheDjinn, but the ability to play all my import PSX software on it did justify the purchase :)

I got mine (standard black PS2) brand new for $250 a few months ago. Not bad, although I really wanted one of the colored models, but I used the extra cash I saved on not buying the LE PS2 for some games.

As for RF for X-Box, I have yet to read of an exact release date, let alone any other information other than it's going to be coming FOR X-Box and PC. Maybe some announcements regarding this game will be coming soon, who knows?

Ok some import shooter news (because there is almost NO domestic shooter news!) :

<a href="http://au.store.yahoo.com/dvdcrave-au/p21a1949.html" target="_blank">1945 and 1949</a>

<a href="http://shop.store.yahoo.com/dvdcrave-au/p2seuv1.html" target="_blank">Shootemup Vol. 1</a>

<a href="http://www.irem.co.jp/official/rfinal/index.html" target="_blank">R-Type Final</a> for PS2

<a href="http://www.taito.co.jp/d3/cp/12stag/" target="_blank">XII Stag</a> March 20th release

There is also a Shikigami sequel comming out for Xbox in japan this month.

And Finally The Raiden Fighters Evolution news:
The fantastic shooter Raiden Fighters Evolution is coming to X-box and PC in Q1 2003, as some of you may know. Screenshots have been added to the official <a href="http://www.nws.co.jp/raiden/" target="_blank"> site</a>, so check it out with post haste! This will be an X-box Live title, which will allow players to share their replays via the network! X-box looks more and more like the place to be for console shooters after the Dreamcast's "demise."
-=-=--=-=-=
Domestic news (but there was laready another thread for this :( )

<a href="http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&product%5Fid=261554" target="_blank">Gunbird 2</a> for PSX

<a href="http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&product%5Fid=280677" target="_blank">Shikigami</a> for PS2

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
P.S. I thought that DDP Peaceful Death was coming out august 10th?

Flip top mod. It's as easy as it's ever going to get, man. Anyone with opposible thumbs can install one, and from that point on you just need to use a bootdisc.

I'm playing FFX-2 and Shikigami right now, and Do Don Pachi will be on it's way soon enough...

Hmm, that's interesting that the one quote said about the X-Box being the replacement for the DC... I think there are more shooters on the PS2 than the X-Box [other than Shikigami no Shiro and now Shikigami no Shiro Evolution Blue/Red (same game, different cover art for Evo)]. Here's the one's I can think of:

PS2:
Psyvariar (contains both Medium Unit and Revision)
Shikigami no Shiro

Upcoming PS2:
XII Stag (end of week)
Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou
R-Type Final
Gradius V (can't believe I forgot this one!!)

X-Box:
Shikigami no Shiro
Shikigami no Shiro Evolution

Upcoming X-Box:
Raiden Fighters Evolution (including sequels???)

Gamecube (with the weakest showing thus far, although it's a great game):
Ikaruga

I never heard about 1945 & 1949 or Shootemup Vol. I, do you have any more news on those two Sharpermc??? Interesting find nonetheless.

Also, thanks for the links to the RF Evo. page, I hope we do get to see it this Q. I like the ability to upload replay data, very handy! Kind of an interesting that they took that route, most other companies have been bundling replay data with the game or distributing it via LE bundle or a stand alone purchase (Ikaruga). Still, it's cool to see other people play these types of games, period buttrock

Source : <a href="http://www.triggerzone.de/" target="_blank">Triggerzone</a>
- It seems as though two shooter titles are mentioned as being primed for March 20th PS2 release by RAE, whomever they may be. The titles, 1945 and 1949 and Shoot 'em up Vol. 1 are both advertized on DVDcrave and basically nowhere else. Very curious.

Update! I got ahold of Alison Vening from DVD Crave, who was able to answer a few of my questions. She said:

"1945 and 1949 is released by Red Ant. We don't have many details about the game yet, just that it is a shooter and is based on WW2.

Shoot em up is also released by Red Ant and is also a Shooter but we think this one is more along the lines of Point Blank."

Some quick research proved that Red Ant is a rather large distro company in Australia. They've been contacted, and this newspost will be updated accordingly as info comes in.

Update the second - after contacting Red Ant, it seems as though Shoot 'em up vol. 1 is set for the planned date of april 20th, but '1945 and 1949' has been pushed back to the fourth week of june. They don't know what these titles are either, so...there may be another update!
Hope that this was the info that you are looking for.

Between the new shooters, VF4E (which may not make it here) and the much earlier release of Soul Calibur II, having an import PS2 is a must.
Gradius V and R-Type Final will probably also have earlier releases.

My friend has sent a lot of stuff for trade at VideoGameDepot and gotten some pretty good deals.
I think they're fine as long as you don't buy Neo games from 'em. I've never had a bad experience with them myself.
