Isn't anyone bothered with the way people like Lucas screw with us?

Episode one COULD have come to DVD when the VHS came out.

It could, that is, if George Lucas wasn't a greedy bastard.

All the people who really like the whole 'Star Wars thing' already bought the VHS. So now what happens? They go buy the DVD. Well, Lucas' wallet thanks you.

It's shit like this that makes me glad Lucas lost his credibility as a director.

So where the fuck is the Indiana Jones trilogy? Huh? I'm sure there will be some super-platinum-mega-monster-addition that will come out in 5 years, and everyone will say: "Aren't we lucky that these movies finally came to DVD! Aren't we lucky! Thank You! We are grateful!" So then all the people who bought the VHS of the Indiana Jones trilogy will go buy the DVD.

$$$$!!!!

Don't you just love the corporate mindset?

Kinda makes you glad to be alive!

I do not plan on purchasing the DVD unless it has a DTS soundtrack or some radical new change from the japanese laser disc. I imported the laser disc over a year ago and just love it. It has a Dolby Digital 5.1 EX sountrack encoded on it and is in widescreen. I really don't care about picture quality or behind the scene extras so unless they put a better soundtrack on the DVD I won't get it.

Read the specs for the Episode I DVD, the amount of effort put into the disc and the amount of extra features available are amazing.

Sorry but you wouldn't know corporate greed if it walked up to you and bit you on the ass. Corporate greed is releasing the DVD as quickly as possible with no extra effort and no features. This defeats the purpose of DVD. Since you obviously don't know what DVD is about, why don't you stay with VHS? If the DVD had been released at the same time, it would have been the same product.

If Lucas is not ready to provide the picture, sound, and features that a quality DVD requires for the original SW and Indiana Jones trilogies, then there is no point in releasing them on DVD now other than to make money. Corporate greed what bullshit! If Lucas wanted to line his pockets then his best move would be to release VHS ports to the DVD now.

Hmmm...

Let's see... Your name's 'Neojedi' hmmm...

I doubt you're biased at all...

The reason it is being released on DVD now is because they already feel they've sold all the VHS copies they could.

Why did they release the letterbox version VHS (Bundled with some worthless BS 'Collectors' items) at 39.99?

Lucas KNOWS that anyone who is a movie buff will get the letterbox version over the pan-and-scan version anyday. So what does he do? He releases the letterbox version as a "Special Collectors Edition" ONLY. It was practically double the price. Nooooo, there was no corporate, greedy bullshit there....

Why not release both versions on VHS at the same time and at the same price? Why not make the 'Collectors Edition' optional?

I highly doubt that it took this long to add the extra features to this DVD. What's it been, 2 years now? holding the DVD back meant that millions of people would buy the VHS. Then, by releasing the DVD, he ensures than many, many of those same people will buy the DVD too.

Sorry to burst you Star Wars loving bubble there "Jedi" , but this is nothing more than a way for Lucas to make the absolute MOST of this films profitability.

So chin up, go get your Episode 1 Tshirts and your special collectors edition Chewbacca plush doll laundered, open your eyes and wake the fuck up.

Yeah, I brought out some defense for the flanneled one but even I'm not foolish enough to defend Episode I.

Neobuyer I put in my 2 cents already and it sounds like you're pissed at GL when he releases something and pissed when he doesn't. I could argue all the points you provided but I doubt I would get anywhere except a flame war, so for now I'll say I disagree and leave it at that.

I remember hearing lucas say in interviews awhile back the reason Episode 1 wouldnt be on DVD right away is because he wanted to wait until better copy protection for DVDs was made, so the disc wouldnt be pirated (BULLSHIT).

Which is a dumb thing to say, since you'll always be able to copy stuff, hell if you have a DVD-R drive you can burn any DVD you rent from blockbuster, and they will play in any DVD player.

Besides Episode 1 sucked ROYAL, the only worthwhile scene was the pod race. The film was nothing compared to the orignal trilogy. Episode 1 was boring, the ships looked really gay, and the characters were very bland and unlikeable. The only cool part was Sam Jackson, and I kept waiting him to jump up and say "Yo' don't be messin' with my boy Yoda Mother Fucka"

I would rather have a company wait, and take the time to release a worthwhile DVD version, instead of just rushing a bare bones one out, and then release the "Collectors edition a year or two later" (I really hate it when they do that, since I end up buying the shit twice...). But you KNOW he's gonna release a DVD box set with ALL the films in it after episodes 2 and 3 come out. So why buy ANY of them now? Just wait for the mac daddy box set whenever it hits.

But some of lucas's films take WAY to long to get on DVD.

Why isn't the indiana jones series on DVD YET? The same with back to the future not really lucas but.)

Anyways the bottom line is Lucas is milking this shit for ALL its worth. He released the VHS saying there would be no dvd for a long time, so all the DVD buyers get pissed and break down and buy the VHS copy (I didnt!). THEN he releases the "Widescreen" edition of the VHS, AFTER everyone bought the first damn VHS version. So the poor saps that wanted widescreen in the first place run out and get the OTHER vhs, which costs even MORE! Like widescreen costs more money to do... ITS THE ORIGINAL ASPECT, WHY does it cost more?!?!?!

THEN he releases the single DVD version, you buy it AGAIN. and years down the line he'll releases the BOX set of all 6 films for like 100 bucks, and you'll have to buy that.

It's all BS, i'll wait for the box set, always wait for the box set, rent em' and you save money.
