Twisted Metal Black, first TRUE game for PS2?

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone shared my opinion of this game. It is the first true game released for the PS2. By that I mean it is not just a five or six hour teaser of what's to come on the PS2 (Onimusha, Bouncer, Zone of the Enders). This game seems like it will take quite a while to unlock everything and the classic TM gameplay is intact. I finally have a reason to dust off my PS2!

I have not cracked the shrinkwrap on it yet, I just got it home. I often fantasize about being Sweet Tooth with all the idiot SUVs and lifted Pickups on the road. <IMG SRC="smilies/loco.gif" border="0">

heh..
i played it the other day.
it seemed kinda cool actually
its too bad PS2 owners had
to wait almost an entire year for
decent games...
i still don t see my self getting
another PS2
..just nothing on it.
when all the "killer apps"
finally string along..
what... that would make the
PS2 good for what?
4-5 games?
gimme a break..

You've heard right, this game is THE darkest most twisted game storywise I have ever played. Definetly not a game for the faint of heart.

Initial opinions;
-Very dark and Evil story line, I like it.
-Borrows alot from Vigilante 8.
-Very good framerate.
-Beautiful pyrotechnics and special effects.
-Lots to interact with in the enviroment.
-Control so smooth the doughnut turns are nauseating.
-A 3D game I can learn to like I think.
-It appears the TM franchise is back on track, now give us just one Warhawk sequel dammit!

Wow, very positive opinions on it. I personally didnt like TM1 much, but I thought TM2 was GREAT! Of course after that, 3 & 4 were pure crap. I might have to atleast go rent this one to give it a go.

hmmm... maybe I should pick up a copy for myself. Does it play similar to the other TM games. If so I wasn't too impressed by those.

Here's how I rate the TM games personally:

1 - Pretty average, wowed me when I saw a video of it running, but didn't like it too much when I actually got it, not at first anyway. Later on it proved pretty good fun in two player though.

2 - WAY better than the first in every way. Level design was excellent and had some of my fave stages.

3 - Despite some people hating it, I thought it was quite good fun, but 2 was still better imo. Liked the Rob Zombie soundtrack too.

4 - Sucked... didn't play it that much but it bored me for some reason.

Twisted Metal Black - Only played it for half an hour last night, but I like what I saw. Seems a lot harder and faster, but once I get used to it I should have some AWESOME fun in two player.

Actually I had another 2 hour session on Twisted Metal Black, and the game just gets better. I've started to suss out some tactics and got used to some of the awesome and HUGE levels. Beat Minion earlier on... man that was a hard boss fight!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

Man, this is one game I have got to play. Looks like the PS2 is finally getting itself a REAL game.

It'll still take a Price Drop and about 10 other good games to get me to buy a PS2 tho..

Yeah I heard it is tough... as soon as I get back from work tomorrow I am gonna go for a marathon gaming session on it and hopefully I'll beat him <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> Just getting used to doing all the special moves and stuff again now, and I am getting a lot better at it.

God I am glad that 989 didn't make this one! <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0">

Yep, I'd say that this one of the few "MUST HAVE!" games for the PS2 so far. Now just gimme Silent Hill 2 and I'll be set for while!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Yep... best bet is to switch it to "easy" when you first start playing, then once you figure out the levels and special moves you should be allright to go on the harder difficulty levels.

Hey, I'm having trouble finding the hidden characters. I found Warthog in one of the abandon buildings in the suburbs stage but I'm having trouble finding the rest. Does anyone know where the other ones are? Also, does anyone know any special maneuvers? I figured out freeze, mine, jump, invisible, invincible and I believe shoot back-wards.

Go to gamefaqs.com as there are a few FAQ's for it there that have the moves listed and also hints on getting the other cars enabled.

I got everything except minion and the skyscrapper stage. I know you have to beat the game with everyone to get minion but what about the other stage?

Just in case anyone is REALLY getting fed up with getting their ass whoooped by the AI, theres a gameshark code on http://www.gameshark.com to turn them into idiots <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">. Only use it if you are completely stuck though, as it isn't as impossible as you might think <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

By the way, here is a really stupid question: You can press triangle to put the game into a split view right? But how do you change the view so you are further away from the car? I've managed to do it but I don't know how, even though I tried every button combo I can think of.

The same thing goes for two player: me and a friend managed to switch the game into a vertical split instead of horizontal, but we couldn't switch the damn thing back. Anyone know how?
