I got my brother one of those sonic package Dreamcast from Circuit City and it shuts off on us in the middle of play. Its a brand new system so it shouldn't have any problems. I'm returning it tomorrow but I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem?

Power issues...
Man this is a common thing in systems.
The power was made for europe I am guessing as I think the volts for them may be a tad different. circuit city is known to fuck things up, I bought a game from them once and they just let me leave with the security protection on it, so I literally had to return to the store to get it removed, the alarms did not even pick the damn game up either, shoddy management, and drunk employees.
They give you any problems I will back you, they are some of the dumbest fuckers, I am guessing the manager lives in a nasty beat down trailor.

I have never, nor have I seen this problem. I think it is a very rare problem that you encountered and I can nearly guarentee that you will not have the same problem twice.

It is a very common problem really , just not that well documented. The main problem is that inside the DC you have a powerboard on the left hand side , if you lift this off the main board i think its either 4 or 6 prongs are sticking up. Clean these and with the connector get a small screwdriver and bend the grips a little.

Though this tends to happen on old machines , not brand new ones
