your best option is the model 2 because it has all the same chips and everything is in there from the model 1 but you can get Stereo A/V cables for it (which you cant for the model 1)

the model 3 while small and very cool looking had 1 or 2 chips removed and cant output a stereo signal and theres a couple games that dont work on it (because of the removed chip)

I'll have to go with the Model 2 as well. Its sturdy, seldom glitches and fits nicely with any decor. :D

I'm all about the original Genny, mainly because of nostalgia, and I love the headphone port...those games sound really good through a bitchin' pair of headphones right from the system.

Wait. There were 3!!? I know there was the one with the moon cheese hole reset button and headphones, that was my favorite. And the small one? So are there 2 models of the old design or 2 models of the small design with no headphone jacks?

Mine was the one that came with Altered Beast and that would be the first.
Its also the one that some games wont work on.
I bought it with 6 games at Toys-R-Us , I think I paid just over $600.00 all together.
Sega then released another just like the origional that was compatible with every game.
I dont think it had the head phone jack ?
That would be #2 as far as I know.
Then there is the cheesey newer one , well I think it is anyway.
Kinda like the newer 2600 looks cheap compared to the origional.

I am partial to the orriginal model, or the Core System as it said on the box. Gotta love that headphone jack and the volume knob :D

Yes you cannot play some games on the model 1. I think it's only pirate games, however. I own a game "Funny World and Balloon Boy" which is a pirated cart, and it only plays on the model 2. You aren't missing much, but still. I assume they changed something to do with lock out on the moel 2 and the games that don't work just bypass the lockout for the model 2? Just a guess.

I would have to say definitely the original model 1 Genesis is the way to go. Not only does it look better on display, (it matches the AES closest in size and looks), it is fully compatible with the Master System Adapter as well. Also, the headphone output can be used with a mini to RCA stereo adapter (like the Neo) if you want stereo output and it even has a level control. (It can be hard to find a true mint one though. Had mine since new)

Originally I was thinking Model 2, but what are the problems with Model 3? I thought I was compatible with Master System games without an adapter?

Model 1 all the way. It's got the sweetest styling, a stero head phone port, and best of all the sturdiest of the bunch.

Model 2 was good, but I know some ppl that had the buttons get stuck (nothing serious tho)

Model 3 - piece of crap, and cheap as hell. There isn't even an LED totellyou if it's on or not, no A/V cables, etc. Still, if ya want a cheap Jenny that's tiny, here it is =P

Proud owner of Gen 1-3 plus Mega Drive model 1.

I prefer Genesis model 1 (core system).

Personally I own a Model 1 Genesis (from a few months after it was released). And I have a 32X. I was thinking about buying a Model 2 Genesis and a Model 2 Sega CD to hook the 32X up to so it would look nicer. I think the Genesis Model 1 looks best buy itself or w/ the old style Sega CD. But the old style Sega CD has problems w/ the tray opening mechanism.

Peace

Oh, I forgot to ask. Do Model 2/3 have any problems with Sega/Mega CD or 32X?

well thats another thing i dont think the Model 3 works with any of the Sega CDs or the 32 X

where as the MOdel 2 does

also yes the model 1 doesnt work with some pirated games but the model 3 doesnt work with some OFFICIAL games again cause they took some chips and such out of the model 3 to make it cheaper

your best bet is the model 2
it supports the Sega CD, the 32X and you can get stereo A/V cables for it

what more could you want out of a genny

Model 2 is the best.

Model 3 looks really cool (it's small as shit) but only get it if you wanna play carts only, and I think it's mono sound only.
