Something is wrong with my Dreamcast :(

My Dreamcast is having trouble spinning the game discs. If I put a game in and close the lid most of the way, it starts to spin, but if i close the lid all the way it usually doesn't work unless I tap the system in the back or on the lid. And sometimes, even after I get it going, it will stop spinning while I am in the middle of the game.

I just bought this thing last August. I didn't think I would be having problems with it so soon. Does anyone have any suggestions? (Sega wants $55 to repair it!! No way..)

Have you used it much? I mean loads!
Take it back to EB and cause a huge riot until they exchange it! Or whereever you bought it from.

Bottom Line is Sega should fix it for free, but if they wont do that directly, exchange it with a shop, and they can send it back to Sega. End result, Sega has to absorb the loss, as they should.

If you got the box and all the parts, take it to Wal-Mart. They will exchange most open items!

I agree with the take it to Wal-Mart idea. The only other thing I can think of is to replace the system shell top cover. There might be a problem with the mechinism on it.

I barely played my Dreamcast. I think it probably has a total of 20 hours of gameplay (probably less) on it in the 10 months that I have had it. And when I did use it, I was always very careful with it, like I am with all my games. I don't understand what happened.

I actually do have the box, documentation, and little plastic baggies for all the system parts. Do you really think Walmart (that is where I bought it) will take it back without a receipt? I'm not one to be dishonest, but I kind of think that this system was just defective.

Shhhhhh... Use Wal-Mart. This is the catch-all solution for problems with controllers, consoles, etc.
Buy a new one, be very careful in opening, replace the new one with the old one, and return it having decided you don't really want it. =o)

The number of times I KNEW I had to take these items back when I was 16 working at Wal-Mart, and I KNEW what customers were doing.

There were even times we'd take N64 games back that seemed sealed still, and give cash back, and find out there were jello-boxes or such inside to create the proper weight. Ouch.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I am going to give that a shot. But, when I return it, don't they have to scan the serial number on the system in order to give me my money back? The system that I am returning will have a different serial number than what is in their computer, and if they scan it while I am there then they'll know..

I guess, either way, it doesn't hurt to try..
