Saddest thing you have seen in a video game?

I know that there are a lot of "what's your favorite this or that thread" and if this is considered spam, then my apologizes.

Anyway, what are some of the saddest or moving moments in a videogame?

My three picks are,

1. In Panzar Dragoon Zwei, in the opening they show this happy little dragoon looking up at these villagers. They then shoot him full of arrows. Call me a puss but I really felt bad for him and I shoot every god damned villager that tries to escape on a two legged beast of some kind on the opening level. I will avenge you little Dragoon!!!

2. When Kefka poisoned the water's of Doma and killing Cyan's family from FF3 (6, whatever). Then the following Ghost train ride where he has to say goodbye to them. Pretty moving stuff.

3. Mother Brain killing the Metroid at the end of Super Metroid. Then that music kicks in and you know Samus is one pissed off mama. Hearing Mother Brain squeal in pain as you blast her with your super charged beam looking for revenge. What a moment that was.

What are some of your guy's picks?

Those are good ones. There were a few parts in Final Fantasy 4 that got me;

1. Rydia's town getting burned with your package
2. Edwards castle getting bombed and his girlfriend dying when she saved him
3. Tellah committing Meteo suicide and Golbez doesn't even die
4. Yang letting himself get blown up in that cannon
5. Edge having to kill his parents who turned to monsters

Damn, I'm getting emotional just thinking about that game

That would have to be my pick too. The intro to Shenmue is also pretty sad. Ryo had to watch Lan Di kill his father and there was nothing that he could do about it.

Aeris getting stabbed in FFVII was actually very sad, I really liked her. FFVII was that last FF game that I actually cared about the characters, so I felt sad when she got killed :(

Good choice, I agree with that. Really pumps and gears you up for the game! In fact, I'm feeling an urge to play it again. (Panzer Zwei)

Dude, If President Ronnie being kidnapped causes you to cry, then I think you might need some serious medication.

I have been playing the Panzar Dragoon games this weekend and made me think up this topic in the first place. Have you seen the trailer for Panzar Dragoon Orta?? It looks like to me that Smilebit has done a great job of capturing that atmosphere that makes Panzar so compelling (to me at least).

I would have put Aeris dying as one of my picks but it was ruined for me as almost everyone knew about 7 months before the American version even hit our shores. I forgot how I found out, but when I saw it I already knew it was coming. Dam internet! ;)

I doubt anyone here can relate, but my saddest gaming moment was when Floyd died in Stationfall (the Infocom sequel to Planetfall).

I completely forgot about Grandia II, there were several emotional moments in that game.

MAJOR SPOILER

My favorite part in the game is when you are escaping from Valmar's Moon after rescuing Elena. Everything seemed hopeless and then one of those monsters attacks Mareg from behind, and then offers to stay behind so that the others can escape. Then the whole FMV where Mareg makes the plea to Granas in order to restore enough power to the Granasabre and then turns to face his impending doom.

END SPOILER

Definitely the death of Aeris, the scene where Cloud is holding her and lets her dead body sink into the water.... It was tough to watch :(

This is the saddest ever in a game

The game: Splatterhouse
Level: 5

'Rick' manages to find his girlfriend after a lengthy search (well four levels anyway) only to watch her transform into a demon, after a massive bout of run under her and punch before she lands and on the 3rd time of her changing from a demon to herself to a demon again slide into her picking up her dyng body into ricks arms and watch her turn to dust

i'm filling up writing this right now <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

i can't believe you people listing Aeris death so much. yeah it was sad, but nothing compares to the death of Nei in Phantasy Star 2.

Aeris death was such a rip off from PhS2.

Nei's death was hands down the saddest moment in any game. Especially when i was so young when i played that game. sniffle.....
