It might be kinda tough, because they really check IDs now when you're getting your badge. 2 years ago, it wouldn't even be an problem, but...

Where do you work? Worst case scenario, you could buy a ticket at the show if your job is in any way technology related.

That's a serious worst case scenario, since it would probably add up to over $400.

You can always get in easily on the last day. Stand outside and buy a pass from someone who's leaving. You'd get about 7+ hours of fun.

My suggestion:

Join the IGDA (International Game Developer's Assocation), it'll cost you (like $150 a year) and you'll still have to pay to get in (but I believe you'll get a discount), but it'll increase your odds of getting in.

Whether or not they'll automatically be fooled/buy your IGDA membership card, I can't say, but it's better than nothing.

well, you could always say that you represent your university. That's what I did.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH... no wait HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

IGDA... What a joke, you know I was suckered into paying their dues for like three years... I got nothing out of it, what a waste. And the meetings, man what a waste of time. Anyway, if it improves your chances to get into E3, cool, but they are shit, sorry.

As for getting into E3, it is simple if you work in the tech sector. Just download the forms at http://www.e3expo.com and fax it over with a copy of your paycheck stub, insurance card, business card, etc... you should have no problem getting in. I have been going since 99's show and it is true that the last few years have been harder for people to get in, but you still shouldn't have a problem if you work in the computer field,

I've thought about doing that this year,

When did you use it? (the year helps with figuring out whether or not they'd tightened the rules yet)

When I was in college, and I will let you all in on a little secret... I created my own company to get in.

What did I do:

I had done a few Game Boy games and a few mac games, these weren't even needed, but it sparked the idea.

1. I created a fake company, I called it NekoSoft.

2. I created a website with game content, screenshots, stories, info, etc

3. I went to Office Depot and printed up Business cards with the company name and my info on them.

4. I registered on E3 as a industry person, but paid the $100 access fee (this made them do less background checking, since I paid for it all).

That got me in, after that I got a letter in the mail each year with a confirmation number and express code, once I had that I never even had to bat an eye... even though I can get in legitimently now, they don't even care since I have been going for so long.

So if you really want to go, that is how you do it... plain and simple. It will cost you a little, but you will have a blast, especially if it is your first year... and those business cards you made can be given to people you met there, you will make tons of new friends :)

OK, so thats the secret, do it and get in... There was no worry about being found out as a fraud (like representing your university, or worrying about fake company info) since I created a company, hired myself, supported it on the web, and had professional image with the cards... it was a done deal. Of course now a days the Exhibits only are $275 (rediculous), but if you want to go, that is a gauranteed way. If you want to try for the free, go for it, but don't be to dissapointed if they turn you down the first year (my friends were turned down last year, so I called up the E3 folk and said they worked with me... got them added, but you have to play their games, you know!).

I work in the computer industry now, it is so easy if you have that background, they will let you in no questions asked. All you need to do, like I said before, is send in a paystub, insurance card, and business card and you are in for free... but if you can't do that, the above info should help... if not... ahh whatever... atleast I came clean about how I got into E3 when I was young and didn't know any better. buttrock loco

LOL,

For the first LA E3 (1999), my roommate and I made up a retail company. Another friend also made up a company, all you needed back then was a business card. Since my g/f at the time knew Russian, I had her help me make a bilingual business card titled:

Trading Trojans
You're Russian Connection

We got in.

As you can see from Nick's description, it's not nearly that easy anymore (they instantly caught onto the easy avoidance), although Nick's plan probably still works.
