I just registered with Ebay as a seller and will soon be placing a rare Hard Rock pin up for bids.

I know several of you do business as sellers as well as buyers, so any information/tips will be of great help to this newcomer.

Thanks. :)

one thing I can tell you is that Pictures, actual picx of the item(s) you are selling gives a little insight that you indeed hav what you are selling. Plus be honest about the item such as condition and a good estimate of shipping couldn't hurt either.

The most important thing I can tell you:

BE HONEST!!!

State your item the way it is, never tell a lie. Answer buyers question as soon as you can, to make communication flow better.

-Don't forget to spell your Auction name CORRECTLY

-Put it in the RELEVANT categories so people will find your item

-Clearly indicate your methods of accepted payment and shipping policies

-Leave positive feedback to your winning bidder after they have paid

Hope that helps buttrock

You might want to start by selling some of your cheaper items first and build up a feedback profile before you start auctioning higher value stuff.

Needless to say a buyer might be a bit wary when they see a seller with little or 0 feedback listing a whole bunch of rare/expsensive shit.

Also, signing up for PayPal if you haven't already is a good idea since it is used for the vast majority of ebay transactions.

KaedesBlade:
1) Don't over charge on shipping.
2) use your own pics.
if you accept paypal... overcharge on shipping a bit.. arond $0.90 to $1.00.
Trust me.. you will be glad you did.

Second... yes use your own pics... make sure you camera can take clear pictures too.

Make sure you cover your butt in your descriptions. If you do not accept certain payments... tell the buyers. If the item has a certain flaw, tell you buyers.

Keep nothing back... except the minimal details that would pose no harm... and would only then detract from the value.

if you use paypal... get yourself both verified and confirmed. Also, to save yourself many headaches... state in your auctions that you only accept Paypal payments from verified accounts with confirmed addresses. otherwise Paypal will not cover you for fraud..... its not like they don't give you crappy coverage anyway.

Yes, use Paypal, and use their auction update thing and it can put Paypal banners right in your auction.

Also use the "gallery pic" or whatever it's called. It's worth the extra 25-cents or so, and definitely makes you more money.

And don't accept personal checks; more trouble than it's worth.

A tip about taking picture. Use a solid colored sheet or blanket on a couch or chair. Place your item on it in a "display case" looking fashion. Then make sure you crop your photo so that there is no background stuff in it. This is for 2 reasons, 1 is that it looks really profesional, and has at many times grabbed me a few $$ more in the end over the exact same item at the same time (even if that one is in seemingly better condition). 2 is that I cant tell you the ammount of times I have turned down bidding on something when a person will just set like a cd or dvd right on the ground or a table. If they do something like that then you can only imagine the quality that they treat it in.

I am going to chime in on the small stuff first. If you get about 10 feedback from $30 or less stuff then move on you will get more bidders. You have no Idea what that little Gold star will do. You can also get a higher feedbackrating through buying, and this may work for you as well.

Good luck.

::nods::

I have about 15+ positive feedback pieces from being a buyer. The pin is already scanned, but the background is black and I lightened the picture a bit so the buyer can see the detail and show that it's in great condition.

However I was thinking about placing a less-valuable pin up first to test the waters, as a couple of you suggested.

Oh, and which servers does ebay allow with hyperlinking? A dumb question, I know, but like I said, I've never done this before. Will ebay allow me to upload onto their server?
