Plenty of other sights to get it, I'm sure...

I just installed mine today (30 mins, only tough part being not pinching the eject button wire), and it works flawlessly.

All you have to do is pop in a swap magic disc (available on these sights), wait until the on screen prompt, flip the new top up, place in an import PS2 game, close it, and play.

Finally, a way to play *original* PS2 imports without buying a Japanese PS2. I got my setup for around 50 shipped (eBay), and I can't recommend it enough if you're looking to pick up some of the great new PS2 imports coming out.

and the toilet coverage returns !
Woo! Ugly, but functional. I'm just glad I'll be able to pick up Ys and some of the new shooters coming out...

Sounds like a strange thing!
How's it look?
Does the replacement case look high quality?

Cool to play imports though.

It looks OK - it's not as high quality (obviously), but just sitting in your entertainment center you won't notice much difference. Honestly, I can't believe someone didn't think up something this simple to play imports a year ago...

it's a cool idea, only thing I would worry about is if there is some timing issue. I mean are you usually rushed to swap the disk like in other systems or is it a piece of cake?

I would hate to reach in and grab the disk only to have it spin up and laser access it :) Could really damage the system,

The disc is completely stopped when you do the swap, much like the Dreamcast boot discs. You can take as long as you want.

I suppose it might be possible to do a swap on moving discs like people did with the PS1, but if you get the Swap Magic discs, it's not an issue.

Do you know anyone who has bought from one of these websites?

There were a couple guys on <a href="http://www.workingdesigns.com" target="_blank">www.workingdesigns.com</a> that got them at <a href="http://www.ps2cover.com" target="_blank">www.ps2cover.com</a>

I bought mine from a seller on ebay - if you're interested, I can send you his email address. I'm pretty sure he still has more.

And to answer the other question, you can save JP games on the memory card you already have. It doesn't work any different.

If you mean can you save both US & JP games on one memory card (for example, a US memory card), then yes :) I have a JP PS2 as well as a US PS2, and I use the same memory card for both consoles.

I'm kind of interested in how you would play games that are multiple disc's with the flip-top mod...

Great news Nick! the fact that the disc plays REAL import games (as opposed to burns) was all I was waiting for. I'll definitely be getting one as soon as Metal Slug 3 comes out.

That's a very good question, but with every multi disc game I've seen, you can save before you change discs. You'd just have to start the system up again with the next disc.

The only possible exception is add-on discs where you have to load the original disc before the add-on (like with the old Beatmania games). Anybody know if any games like this exist for PS2? I think the Beatmania DX games, for example, don't require you to load one disc before the other.

That's a good point, I didn't think of that!

I guess if the add-on disc needs to be region detected as well, then this could be a problem, but if not, you'll be fine. I don't know of any append disks for PS2 games at the moment...
