Hello everybody. I would much like to find a DVD player that will play both NTSC USA dvds as well as region 2 Japanese dvds. I am not to up on dvd players so I am quite ignorant as to where to look or if region free dvd players exist. I have heard of APEX brand but all I read them playing is PAL and NTSC. I do not see any mention about region 2 Japanese dvds being playable.
I very much need to know as I just got Gamera dvd box set but it is region specific. Thanks alot.

Go to your local best buy, retail markup store with the region 2 dvds. Try em in each system till you find one that works and is in your budget range.

I have one of those APEX players. You can set it to play specific regions (I have played Hong Kong, Japanese, European, U.S., etc. DVD's on it), or you can just disable it in general, which makes more sense. Who wants to go to the Menu and keep changing regions, when disabling it lets you play them all? <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">

It also plays VCD's, and has the option to disable the MacroVision copy protection in a hidden menu. You can find instructions on the 'Net on how to access it. You know you found the right one when it displays the text, "You Are Not Supposed To Be Here." <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I also has an APEX player with no region coding. Your best bet is finding an APEX or you can actually mod DVD players to play discs much like you can mod a Playstation.

But you do have to take into consideration that the latest releases are designed not to play on those withough a region. ie Patriot or Perfect Storm

I've heard that most of the Pioneer DVD players are multi regional(but I live in Australia so I don't know if that applies to all countries)

You can buy all-region DVD player from Asia for sure (Aiwa)

No, because you apparently missed this part of my post.

As I stated, it can be set to play specific regions, or disabled totally. Want to play one of the new coded DVD's? Just set it for that region, it plays no problem. Duh.
