Any CD? Are you talking about Audio CD or what?
Don't spread rumor, please
I have Genesis 1-3, Sega CD 1&2, Mega CD 2 and CDX and I've tried every thing to test out
CDX will not play Mega CD (JPN) game.
If CDX can play CD game from any region, please take a picture so we'll believe what you say.

DATEL is the company who manufactured Mega CD convertor
Unless your CDX got moded or using convertor then there is no way you can play import game on your CDX (unless you got JPN CDX)

Bit confused here - was the multimega called a cdx in the states
The datel cart i have is called a cdx pro, you sit the cartridge into your mega drive.
Switch on the power and you go to the cd page and insert the Jap game, close the drawer and after a few seconds the tab which runs the games highlights and thats you
In the uk it was called a Datel cdx pro, i dont think the sega cdx machine was ever released in the uk
I took this from Videogame imports website:
Pro CDX Converter | Universal
Mega/Sega CD | Datel | Accessories
Allows you to play Mega/Sega CD games from all regions an any Mega CD1 system. Is not compatible with Mega CD2, and as far as we know, Multi Mega/CDX, WonderMega and Laser Active systems.
The link is:
<a href="http://www.videogameimports.com/hw_index.htm" target="_blank">Datel pro cdx converter</a>
click on that then once the web page has booted up click on the little tabs at the top (select)
mega/segacd/all/all
