Wonder what neo games the non-neo kids play?

here's some miscellaneous info that hopefully someone will find interesting

if not, eh, here it is anyway

Well, I have a Neo-Geo machine for public play stuck in the game store* next to our shop.
*Yugio, Pokemon, DBZ, MtG, Mechwarrior type store*
Today I was curious to see what these kids are actually playing because I've been more or less just putting in the games I thought they would like.

here are the stats for the past two months:
Puzzle Bobble - 8 plays, 1 continue
Blazing Star (I had ran this one once before) - 17 plays, 2 continues
Magical Drop II - 26 plays, 12 continues
Rage of the Dragons - 32 plays, 0 continues
Pulstar - 87 plays, 23 continues
Metal Slug 3 - 216 plays, 89 continues
KoF2000 (I just put that one in yesterday) - 4 plays, 0 continues

Looks like the non-neo kids like Metal Slug 3.
I had ran both RotD and MS3 both before as well as Blazing Star in a different board. I was suprised to see Metal Slug 3 was still doing so well when RotD kinda' bottomed out.
I guess MS3 has more endurance. :D

Any Metal Slug is pretty popular among the non-Neo gamers. When I mention Neo Geo to non-Neo and even non-gaming friends Metal Slug and Bust-a-Move usually come to mind for them.

Cool statistics though. Looking to place some cabs at the student center at my college and its good to know what the non-Neo gamers play.

Interesting...I thought Puzzle Bobble would have done much better, myself.

My friend never really was into the neo but fell in love with Mark of the Wolves when he got it on his DC

Granted, I haven't had the Puzzle Bobble in quite as long as the Magical Drop II, but I also thought it would have done better.
Personally, I like Magical Drop II better than Puzzle Bobble/Bust A Move, but those credits were not from me. :)
One kid has actually came up to me and asked if I would put Waku Waku 7 back in. I didn't check to see how many times that was played back when I had it in, but I was told by the store owner the kids liked it.
There's a good chance I'll cycle back to that one some time. I'm not sure if college students would share the same affection for it though.

I like Mark of the Wolves, but I haven't tried it in that Neo yet. I'm greedy with that cart, lol.

It's true that non-Neo gamers like the Metal Slug series. Whenever it's ported, the magazines always seem to go mental over it (Even if they forget that there's more than just Metal Slug X...).

And anyway, it was Metal Slug that got me into the Neo Geo.

If I saw WW7 in a cab, I'd play it! Even though I have it my permanently in my cab at home, I'd still pay good money to play it in public wink

My experience with "non Neo gamers":
Girlfriend LOVES Magical Drop 3
Friend Shawn likes Samurai Shodown 4
Brother enjoys Metal Slug series, KOF, and Mark of the Wolves

Everyone else I hang with doesn't really play games or know much.

New hire at work remembers World Heroes 2 as one of his favorite at the arcade in his day though.

I see Windjammers at #3 on your list. I enjoy that myself, but it's still on my 'to buy' list.
I guess some kids like it more than I thought they would.

I think that's a great idea. Especially if there aren't many neos around in your area. Even if it doesn't make tons of money, it exposes people, adults and children, to that 2D glory so many have forgotten. In a way, it's almost like you're helping to preserve something.
Example: Some kid plays Metal Slug or KoF for the first time, plays it a few more times over the next couple months, then, ten or twelve years down the road they're thinking, 'I remember this cool game when I was a kid, I'd love to play it again', then starts searching for and buying those old games.

okay, I guess I might be getting too deep or going off the deep end with that paragraph, so I'll stop now wink

Tidus Vash,

The boys (middle school age - 10 - 13 years old) really had a blast with this game, especially against each other.
