Okay anytime you watch tv where they are playing a video game either a commercial or on a TV series, the sound effects that you hear are about 90% of the time Pac-Man from the 2600. What is up with that?
It's pretty much what chris1 said. Everybody knows that Pac-Man *blee bloop bloop* sounds mean videogames. Seriously think about it for a minute, if you heard a modern game, say Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, playing somewhere, but you couldn't see it and you didn't know what it was, you'd probably think somebody was watching Miami Vice or a movie. Pac-Man is just a universally recognized "videogame" sound.
The real funny part is when they're holding PSX controllers and pressing buttons like theres no tomorrow, and the sounds don't match up at all.
And just for shits and giggles, there was one episode of some WB show (I think Felicity, I wasn't watching it on purpose
I swear ) where they were actually playing Gran Turismo 2, with the real game sounds, etc. So I dunno, I guess it depends on your target audience.
