SDRAM VS DDR

I just upgraded my Motherboard and CPU but am still stuck with 256mb(SDRAM) of system ram. My motherboard allows for both SDRAM an for DDR ram. Is the upgrade to DDR ram wiorth the price. I am debating on either having 1024 of SDRAM or 512mb of DDR ram with possibility of upgrading to 1024 later on. Is the extra DDR ram worth it? Im not looking for a 5% incrase in speed I want the differnce to be noticable. I have heared the DDR wont make much of a differnce as system ram, but it does on a videocard (because it can read and write at the same time). I have also heared that DDR ram has a latency. Can anyone give me some advise?

Given you have to buy more RAM anyway I'd go with the DDR. Don't expect a marked improvement though.

These days the question is more how much memory do you want versus how much you want to pay.

Examples from <a href="http://www.tcwo.com" target="_blank">www.tcwo.com</a>
DDR
128MB PC2100 266MHz 30.00
256MB PC2100 266MHz 53.00
256MB PC2700 333MHz 59.00
256MB PC3200 400MHz 68.00
512MB PC2100 266MHz 110.00
512MB PC2700 333MHz 116.00
512MB PC3200 400MHz 131.00

SDRAM
128MB PC133 SDRAM 28.00
128MB PC100 SDRAM 27.00
256MB PC100 SDRAM 50.00
256MB PC133 SDRAM Double Sided 53.00
256MB PC133 SDRAM Single Sided 40.00
512MB PC133 SDRAM 79.00
64MB PC133 SDRAM 18.00
64MB PC100 SDRAM 21.00

Also as far as speed goes remember memory will only run as fast as the slowest memory module. Ex if you have a 128MB 100Mhz stick in the same motherboard as a 128MB 133Mhz stick then both will only operate at 100Mhz.

Well I have a board that supports both up to PC133 of SDram and up to PC2100 in DDR. Obviously you can not have two differnt types of ram so I have to choose. Just in case somone ask's I am running a

Shuttle AK32A at 1.8ghz Athlon Xp with 256 PC133 and a Radeon 7500.

Upgrading to DDR noticably improved the preformance of my dads dual g4 1mhz tower. Its sweet. I dont have exact benchmarks, but it sped certain photoshop operations up quite a bit. Worth the money Id say.

If your Radeon is running DDR, get it for your system too.

agreed.... definitely go with DDr.

I forget the % faster.. but you will see a huge increase.

DDR is best for rendering graphics.. and doing animation. The New DDr they have out is even better... but make sure you do get DDR.
