I'm certain there's a number of people who already know this, but I didn't, and I'm sure there are more like me. So here's a great article that shows how much Super Mario Bros 2 owes Doki-Doki Panic

Enjoy

I knew it was taken from another game, but didn't know much about it. Many thanks for the detailed link!

They have hacked SMB2 roms that add back in the DDP sprites and stuff.

It was kind of cheap of Nintendo to make that game and not release the original SMB2.

But hell, what am I saying, 2 is one of my favorites.

Actually they did get our version.
It was released in japan as Super Mario Brothers USA.

i always knew this, but the big question is wtf is up with the reoccuring characters from SMB2 in other Nintendo titles.

I wonder what the japanese think about all of the SMB2 stuff in SSBMelee ?!?!

or did they get a different melee?

I knew about SMB2 being a different game in Japan.Personally,I think the original version of SMB2 was a much better game than its US counterpart.Still,I enjoy playing them both, nevertheless.

I knew it, not all the details though. When you think about it's quite obvious that the game was done different considering how different the gameplay is compared to the other mario games

Cool link...I've been hunting for Doki Doki Panic for a long time. I had gotten a deal on a bunch of Famicom disk games off of Ebay that included Doki Doki Panic but to my horror I found out most of them were bootleg knockoffs and alot of them didn't work.

Nice to finally see all the changes that were made to the game. SMB2 is still one of my all time fave games :) .

I knew about this already, gee I thought everyone knew. Anyways, if you've played the lost levels on Super Mario All Stars for SNES or I think they're called something similar on Super Mario Deluxe on GBC, then you've played the Japanese SMB 2. Basically it's Super Mario 1 with all new, MUCH harder levels. buttrock
