Well, you knew this sale had to be coming, didn't you?

33% off all Bandai DVDs at Rightstuf. I'd definately suggest Escaflowne, Love Hina, and Cowboy Bebop (especially Bebop). Outlaw Star is also good, and Gundam Wing seems to be popular (although I've never seen it).

As always, the links and code are in my sig. Please do use the links, and have some fun spending your money! I know I will.

well, even though i shouldn't have, i ordered the remaining DVDs I needed for both Cowboy Bebop and Ronin Warriors. I really wanted the Crest of the Stars box set, but because it doesn't come out until June, the discount was not applied. oh well, some other time...it's pretty cheap for a box set. In any case, thanks again Nick.

BTW, the first coupon code you have listed for Amazon $5 off $35 order has expired. just thought I'd let you know.

Man, I think this is the first time they've done one of these sales... and I don't think I'm buying anything... Kind of disappointing but i can feel my wallet letting out a big sigh of relief.

I have the first Saber Marrionette J DVD, maybe I'll pick up the rest of that series? I also have the first Angel Links DVD. Maybe I'll pick the rest of that up as well?

If anyone is interested, I CANNOT, with a clear conscience, recommend either of these series to anyone. They were... OK, but not something I'd go out and pay more than say $60 for total. The series were simply OK, but nothing all that great.

I DO recommend Bebop, Outlaw Star, Love Hina and Escaflowne to anyone willing to buy, along with Gundam Wing.

If you like you Anime with an ending, avoid Pilot Candidate. You get 13 episodes, but the series isn't complete. If you watch subbed, you also get dub titles (meaning they sub the ENGLISH rather than the JPN. Makes for the whole mouth keeps moving after I'm done talking Godzilla look).

Avoid Melty Lancer, unless you've played the game and know the backstory. Otherwise you'll have the same problem I had... you watch it and feel like you're missing something.

Avoid G-Saviour, unless you are a HARDCORE Gundam fan. It's like a bad SCI-FI channel movie.

Fancy Lala is good if you are looking for something a little bit different than your normal Anime fare. It's about a little girl who can turn into a 15 year old that is a teen idol (it's better than it sounds, really!).

Banner and Crest of the Stars are fucking awesome. I highly recommend them.

Argentosoma seems like it will be pretty damn cool (I've only seen the first disc as that is all that is available). Plus it has Kikuko Inoue (Belldandy from Ah/Oh! My Goddess) doing a voice (she also plays I-No on GGX2).

Betterman is... different to say the least/ It's like a horror/SCI-FI (pushing more towards SCI-FI) show. Not bad, not great.

Arjuna... well, it's not bad and it's not great as well. The music is top notch and so is the animation, but it's a "save the Earth form pollution" Anime.

Well, that's my $.02 on the DVDs available anyway. If you have any questions on anything available, let me know as I own most of what's there...

Thanks for the heads up. I'll remove that ASAP. Hopefully the others are still working OK for everybody.

You know, I originally had, like, 1 DVD in mind (Love Hina Spring Special) because I own pretty much all of the big Bandai releases... and then I'm reminded of, like, 3 other series that I was interested in checking out. I say thanks, my wallet says thanks a lot, jackass. wink

Banner and Crest are really that good though, huh? All I've seen is the previews Tech TV had, and it just struck me as generic, but I'll have to give it a shot. I mean, their preview made Lain look pretty boring too.

I'd be a little more excited about Betterman if it wasn't for the kids awful voice in Japanese and his awful puns in the dub. Still, the DVD I saw was interesting...

I aldready have the LH Spring Special preordered from DVD Planet, along with at least 3 other titles, so ordering them again wasn't really an option. I"d only save a few bucks, even with the discount, if I cancelled my DVD Planet orders, so it's not really worth it.

Is there anything in there that I didn't mention that you could recommend? I'd hate to miss out on a great deal if it's something worth watching...

It's just funy, but I thought Bandai had a lot more stuff out there that I didn't already own. I thought about buying the Mobile Suit Gundam original series, but paying the same price for Dub only as I would if it were subbed and dubbed seems like a major rip off (yeah, yeah, it's a good thing I don't live in Japan...)

The Banner/Crest series is pretty cool IMHO, but you have to be into space drama along with "normal" drama; since much of the first series (Crest) deals with the 2 main characters and their interaction with one another (Banner stays in space for the most part, as I understand it, whereas Crest spent a lot of time on planets and such). Don't know if you've seen anything about it, but the one is an Abh (alien) while the other is human. You can probably guess what kind of a "special" bond they form, but it's still a pretty damn good series. Crest really surprised me last year when I picked it up, as I wasn't expecting it to be good (it turned out to be DAMN good!). Just make sure you are getting the CinRam version of the DVD (disc 1 anyway, all the other discs in the Crest series were done exclusively by CinRam). The other version that was available had some MASSIVE artifacting and a load of other problems (I had the misfortune of receiving this disc last year and having to wait for the CinRam replacement from Bandai. I would HOPE that only the CinRam version exists now). If you pick it up, just go to the Extras and to the credits and make sure it says CinRam did the encode (again, disc 1 only).

You really have to have some time to spend with Betterman. I really can't recommend it if you don't like you Anime turning into a freak show type thing. It can be hard to understand at times, and the previews for the episodes... well, they don't give you a real explanation of what's going to happen...they're hard to explain while you're drunk.

Argentosoma was about a boy whose girlfriend dies when the scientist his girlfriend (and eventually, he) works for brings an alien back to life. He of course, blames the alien for his girlfriend's death (the alien really doesn't seem evil). Someone appears (they haven't really explained this guy yet) and offers to help him in his quest for revenge. It's well animated and the story doesn't seem too bad, I'd give it a 3.75 out of 5. Worth checking out if you have the $$$.

Another important title by Bandai that has not been mentioned as far as I can tell is .hack//SIGN, the first dvd is released on March 4th, so that isn't TOO far away, and I highly recommend this series, especially if you were or are into MMORPG's. It's an excellent storyline with some excellent music. Unfortunately the limited edition box set for the first DVD is no longer available at RightStuf...but pick up this title anyway!!!

I was wanting to pick up all of the Love Hina's, but I need my money for .hack, Noir, and some other random VG's comin out. Go buy that shit up guys!

I too must recommend Bebop (highly) and Love Hina (not as high as Bebop but still high) and .hack//SIGN (maybe inbetween Bebop and Hina)...but that is all my opinion after all

Actually, the only reason I can't recommend it is because I haven't received my DVD yet, so I haven't actually SEEN the show. I didn't order it from Rightstuf 'cause I already ordered the LE w/ box from DVD Planet as well.

I try not to recommend any show I haven't actually seen. You, on the other hand, have obviously watched some of the show, so your opinion is appreciated! Thanks!

3/7. It's a reuseable coupon, too.

Same here. I don't own that many series, but I already owned all of Bandai's big hits... except Gundam Wing, which I'm not sure I'd be into.

I see Rightstuf has a Crest of the Stars Box Set listed for June at 37.99. That price seems absolutely ridiculous for the entire series (375 minutes sound about right?) - I'm just hoping it's not, like, the edited/dub only version they were showing on Tech TV. I'll have to do a little research on this.

I think the $37.99 set of Crest probably is the whole first series without any cuts. Bandai seems to be jumping on the whole "put our old stuff in one multi disc DVD case" craze. NOT that this is a bad thing mind you, it's always nice to save $$$ on an older series AND save some space for other DVDs. It's good all around as you can get the whole series with one purchase, you save space and Bandai can make more money on a series that they've finished marketing, so it's likely ALL profit for them. At a lower price point, it's probably something a lot of people will turn in to an "impulse purchase."

I'm positive Bandai never made any dub only discs for Crest, so you don't need to worry about that. If their Outlaw Star collection is any indication (I personally own each individual set), then they are the same discs found in the original releases. can't imagine a company wasting money on creating a dub only set of discs when they already have subbed/dubbed discs available, right?

2 of the other series they've done or are doing like this are Outlaw Star (6 discs ~$80) and Jubei-chan Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch (date and price TBD). I thought about getting Jubei-chan with the Bandai sale, but since it was only 4 discs, more then likely the price will be set like the Crest set, meaning ~$40. Sounds like something I would rather wait for.

You should probably pick up Banner #1 and prepurchase #2 while they sale is on (is #2 covered on the sale?). Then wait until June and pick up the Crest set.

As far as Gundam Wing, the animation is really well done, especially for a 48 episode TV series (being Gundam, I'm sure they get a hefty budget). The other series seem to focus on a war, where as on this set the war seems somewhat secondary to the lives of the 5 Gundam pilots (revolves mostly around Heero). Did you ever watch any of it on the CN? That's how I originally got into GW. I liked the series, but if you're not into Giant robots and crazy twisting plots that can sometimes leave you confused (first time through anyway), then you may wanna stay away from this one. If money is an issue, that's another good reason to stay away (10 discs ~$20 apice... $200 for a whole series you're not even sure you'll like. Sounds like something crazy I would do :) )
