I have chosen the next pointless thing on which to needlessly spend my hard-earned money...

and it is this!

Now, the question will be where to put it... :D

come on... a toy sword?!

I took fencing for a few years in high school, so I have respect for swordmanship, but when I see people buying toy swords it makes my stomach turn.

We all have our overpriced toys, my friend. ;)

This one's just shiny metal instead of circuitry-laden.

It's not a toy sword more of a prop sword. I'm looking for a Katana Prop sword my self for Ninja May Cry.

Lets see big Tempered 420 J2 stainless steel sword.
Small thin fencing foil. Hum which would make more of an impression on someone? The only thing a foil is going to do is make people laugh at your gay ass. Whip out 36" of tempered steel and watch their eyes bug out!!!

In swordsmanship, size does not matter. Kenshin vs. Sano anyone?

But yeah, stainless steel. thanks for the laugh. I was looking for something to cut my steaks with.

It's not wise to cut steak with stainless steel. The salt corrodes the metal. If anyone remembers the Flxible bus chassis incidents.

It's not wise to make knives out of stainless steel, but it's done, and sold all the time. My flatware is stainless steel. Of course, as you're saying, it's not even wise to make a sword out of stainless steel. But you know, some people will buy any "masterpiece" they find on the internet, made by a "master Spanish swordsmith"... :p

Hah! I haven't lived with my parents in ten years, my friend. What's your story? ;)

(And for the record, I'm 28.)

Remodelling my apartment, and it's cheaper than staying in a hotel.

yes stainless steel does not make for a good sword. High carbon steel does, or in traditional Japanese swords the steel was folded up to 600 times to create a type of spring steel which makes for the best swords.

That is True. Skilled Swordsmiths could do it 1000 times if they were lucky.

I dunno, that sword is kinda dull.
I think the Heay Metal F.A.K.K.2 sword looks a damn sight cooler - ta-dahh!!, but I guess I've never been into Tolkien that much.

Whatever tickles your fancy I guess. And there arn't that many people with a sword hanging on their wall - so what the heck.

Posters of Cindy Crawford, collection of HES carts, McFarline toys, Stainless Steel swords - were are all loosers one way or another. ;)

Actually stainless steel is perfect for a sword designed to be displayed not really used. It requires a lot less maintenance than one made of high grade carbon.

Not to say that you couldn't but an edge on it if you really wanted. And usually stainless steel swords are made by grinding the shape out of a block since stainless steel is very hard to forge.

What the sword is made of will be determined by the use it is intended for. In this case it is a replica intended for displaying so stainless steel is the right choice. Also since it is a comercially manufactured sword the price of the material has to be lower so they could actually have a chance of selling enough to make a profit. High carbon hand forged swords usually run in the thousands not hundreds of dollars.

Those are really nice and I know that the knife does have a razor sharp edge. I know that because I have one can't say if the sword does or not since I have yet to get it.

And yeah it is what ever tickles you fancy not everyone is into having swords hanging on their wall. Then again not every one would pay several hundreds of dollars to play video games either.

Why hang a sword on the wall when you can just tape a sign on your shirt saying "I'm a big dork"?

Well neither will do crap against a nice 45. caliber handgun , unless maybe you are Remo Williams ?

Ive never really been into the knife or sword thing but hey as you are having fun with it then thats all that matters.

I just dropped 26K on a 1986 porsche Cabrolet with 42,000 miles on it , that is my most recent toy that I really didnt need but always wanted.

Its not my first Porsche {1980 911/SC} but it will probably be my last.

toy_brain: That kind of stuff strikes me as more tacky than cool. Impractical. It doesn't look like it could really serve a real purpose. Rather, it's more likely to pose a threat to the one trying to weild it than the intended victim.

And Wasabi, I really don't think anyone who's more or less devoted his life to collecting every scrap of Samurai Shodown merchandise there is has a right to call anyone a dork. ;P Heh.

I like the sword. It's beautifully designed, and no less a work of art than a print of some painter's work. Costs less than some, too. As ever, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

With that avatar why not just tape a sign to you shirt saying "I'm a big fruity ass gay bitch" ?

Really though who here on this site has any room to call someone a dork for liking something like swords? Everyone here supposidly likea a 15 year old video game system. How much of a dork do you have to be for that?

When we move out we want to get a 3 piece Katana set put in the bedroom for decoration. Thought it'd be pretty cool, plus it may not be the best for everyday "swordsmanship" use but if someone breaks in I'm sure the edge is plenty sharp enough to show the son of a bitch who's the boss (and no I don't mean Tony Danza).

Personally I keep a wooden Katana/training sword behind my bed (along w/ a knife and metal bar) for just such an occasion. I donno I may switch back to my good old metal baseball bat from little league but this training sword has some pretty good reach. :D

Peace
