If you mean what do you need to be in the Video Game Retail business... Unfortunately you only need to be a YES MAN, and have a minimal knowledge of gaming from PSone onto present, which sucks because even that part of the gaming industry is now overrun by techno-weenies instead of the die-hards.

If you mean how to get into the Video Game industry itself... Know someone, have some mad fuckin' skills in C C++, have graduated from a school like Digipimp and that's about what I know on it. Unless you're like me and have dreams of making games for dead systems for the Die-Hard Professional Hobby of it and never set the world on fire.

know no one, just start writing your own shit. there are TONS of freeware/GNU stuff out there that you can utilize, most of it is for linux, but there is pleanty of help available. and there are TONS of librarys at your finger tips for writing Comercial Software that doesnt cost you anything, or require you to know anyone.

infact, i suggest you start out here(s?):

www.trolltech.com - they make qT a Cross platform GUI Class system, free, so long as your software is GNU. and if you want to splurge, you can compile for win/mac/X11.

www.sourceforge.net / www.freshmeat.net - great places to get opensource software that you can use for game creation, granted, once again, most is for linux, but is easily cross compiled if you know what your doing. not to mention there are some game development tools in there. as well as FREE GAMES (mostly for linux) WITH SOURCE!

after that you are on your own, good luck, and quit bitching!
