Someone won an auction a couple days ago from me. They paid immediately with paypal, which is good. But their address is uncomfirmed. I have sent them a few emails asking if the address is correct, but they do not reply. Should I ship it to the uncomfirmed address or wait for them to email me?

I'd wait for them to reply. If their address is not confirmed then they can later turn around and say they never received the item because you didn't ship it to their "real" address, and then they'll talk PayPal into a chargeback (I've seen it before).

As an Ebay seller, I have shipped to unconfirmed addresses a number of times. One thing to consider is the buyer's feedback rating; if it is pretty good, you're unlikely to have an issue with them. If the buyer has low feedback or some/excessive negative fb, then you should be cautious about shipping to his unconfirmed address. If he looks solid, then you should be OK. This is just my experience, and so far I haven't had any problems on Ebay, and I've sold quite a bit . . .

excellent post Bryce

btw is the buyer in the Us????

Is there any Uk members who have confirmed their address via paypal, if you have can you let me know how to do it

i am an international premier member but i cannot confirm my address for some reason - i though it was because they only can confirm the address if you are a Us member :)

I deny all unconfirmed payments..... because regardless if their feedback is good, you will not be covered under the fraud protection in case something goes wrong... or bad with the deal.

The only sure fire way to be sure is to accept payments from verified buyers with confirmed addresses.

I have run up on a couple of occasions that I have been 100% GLAD that I did so. I have done close to 200 transactions with paypal and about 5 would have been bad deals if I wouldn't have made the buyer send me a money order (due to no being confirmed) or resending the payment with a confirmed address.

It will save you a loss in the future.
BUT, remember to state that in the payment information of your auction.... don't pull it up as a surprise, or you will have ticked off people.

I am US, they are US, and they have 0 feedback. Registered for ebay on the 25th. New ebay member, and I would guess new paypal member as well. If they would just reply to my emails!

I was wondering why my address has never changed to 'confirmed' on PayPal; I guess that's why, since I reside in Canada.

As an aside, I've used PayPal for a great many auction and non-auction transactions and have NEVER even had anyone mention that my address is unconfirmed, let alone refuse to ship the product.

I haven't had a problem yet either, but it's a bit disconcerting when you receive a copy of the email sent to the seller and it says that that the transaction isn't protected by their safe seller policy.

I agree with you Bluevoodu.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

If the person had some positive feedback you could email the people who has sent him/her a package to see if they mailed to the uncomfirmed address with no problems if you felt uncomfortable about shipping the package.

But with no feedback it's possible you may get ripped off.
I would take the funds they send out of paypal somehow, and keep emailing for an address.

I would then only send the package to them after they have emailed me their address, and have the funds in hand.
You have to take precaution so you don't get ripped off.
Another reason why I only accept money orders and pay with them.
For the last 6 months I have had "Total" bad luck with No feedback winning bidders.
They just don't want to pay..They email me asking if I would send the package first or make an excuse on why they cant pay for the auction.
Fkn crazy..
I just had a auction end with "pos" feedback non paying bidder.
It was a kid who somehow got into his moms computer and used her credit card/paypal account and bought up a ton of Yu-Gi-Oh cards stuff.
The kid was pretending to be an adult and said he was a FED and didn't realize that I only took money orders...No paypal, billpoint or checks.
He asked if I would send the Yu-Gi-Oh tin an he would pay for it after the 16th of Jan..The auction ended on the 1rst of Jan.
NO fn way..
Then his MOM emailed me explaining the situation after the 16th.
Her son went crazy with her money.
I don't know how but he did it.
She paid but more than a month later.

People sit on the computer all day trying to figure how thay can rip someone off.

most of the people who do rip people off seem to have good account status too.. around 10-30 feedback.

the 0 people... they just never pay if they are going to do anything.

I'm not refusing to send the product. I just want an email from confirming that paypal sent me the right address. They havent sent me a single email. Just the paypal payment.

well... I have seen internationally verified users.. and I KNOW that I have seen a few internationally verified users with a confirmed address.

I would refund their payment. State "I am sorry, since your paypal address is unconfirmed, I refunding this payment. PLease either resubmit payment with a confirmed address or send a money order to my address: (List your address).

That normally works, but I think this situation sounds rather fishy ND.... be careful on it.

Ahhh, then I see your point.

I wouldn't send it out until you at least get a response from them confirming their address.

I always send an email after payment has been made stating something like 'payment sent via PayPal'. I usually include my address in earlier communication because, being out of country, there usually needs to be an increase in the amount I pay for shipping.

I don't know if I'd return the payment, unless they ask for it to be returned simply because I would be royally pissed off to have fees incurred because someone wasn't patient enough to give me a week to check my emails.

If they guy isn't expecting mail then he might not be looking for it. He may even have an over high junk filter on. You could PayPal him a tiny sum in a couple of weeks with a message on it asking him to confirm his address, people tend to look at incoming PayPal payment messages.

When yo send a payment beside the address is says confirmed and un-confirmed

on mine is huge red letters UN-CONFIRMED

its un-fair as sometime some us sellers ask me to confirm my address and well i cant

Havent had anyone decide not to sell me the item - but its been close a couple of times, because in the past they had a bad time with un-confirmed members frown

are you absolutely sure about that? being verified isn't a problem, but I was told by paypal that atm only US addresses can be confirmed.

In order to get a verified address you have to actually go through the process of notifying PayPal you wish to do so. They will send a password in the mail to the address present on the CC you opened your account with and you must then log on and type that password in once it arrives in the mail.

Whole process takes a couple of weeks. You just don't get verifoed automatically and personally, I have never turned down a payment from an unverified address.

Hmmm, dunno if I remember ever seeing that. I sent them copies of my passport and stuff one time along with other financial documents. I dunno, I'll have to look carefully at everything next time.
