Another Genesis in hand by late this afternoon.
I used to have a pack-in copy but sold it long time ago (it was made-in-Taiwan though).

This time I got a mint copy and to my surprise it's made-in-Japan (I'm a made-in-Japan fanboy).

I was so exciting to play it again and it's way better than DC Smash Pack version (the sound).

Not a ground-breaking game but rather it brought up my old memory of 16-bit era.

My roomate was asking me what the hell is this game. He said PS2 Tony Hawk is the best game he's ever played so far..... tickled

Yes, the Altered Beast.

A classic for somewhat dubious reasons. I like it alot, but not like I like Strider, or Kof 99.

yes, liquid snake, nostalgia. Nostalgia.

Liquid, try the Master System version of Altered Beast... It rocked! Blew the Genesis version away... Especially considering the hardware it was on,

Quite agree, Altered Beast on the Master System was really a stunning production for the time. It's too bad they had to drop one of the levels, but still it put just about * all other arcade ports on the Master System to shame.

*not including R-Type buttrock

Altered beast, my first MD playing!
I would like to know if the arcade version is much better than the MD one, cause I have never seen the game on a cab.

Ah, the memories...!

Have it ever since I bought my Genesis (was my pack-in game too). I remember the day when I bought the package, I just wanted to leave the store when I saw a copy of Ghouls'n'Ghosts. One quick look at the remaining ducats later, I went home with the Genny and two great games... a week later I bought Golden Axe and then, another month after that, I bought Herzog Zwei in a big vg store on Oxford Street in London while on a holiday trip... oooh yeah, those were the days!! drool

Btw., AB used to be my girl's favourite game until Mean Bean Machine came out later on. She was quite good at it.

I still remember the very first time I heard the voice sample from Altered Beast: "Wise from you guwave" tickled

Are you guys sure Master system version is better than Genny? My friends told me to stay away from it....

I'm still waiting for my Alien Soldier (shipped from Germany last December and I still haven't received it yet).

Maybe Yu Yu Hakosho will be my last Genesis game to collect........

Alls I gots to say about the Altered Beast on SMS is that it is Chop-Pee. Choppy, man. And slow.

Same goes with Golden Axe on SMS. Choptastic and slow.

Chalk another up for Nostalgia!

I loved Altered Beast, beat it every day for awhile when I first bought my Genesis... Well, it was alot better than the sucky version of Space Harrier 2.

I bought Steel Empire and Dashin Desperados for Genesis this weekend at a flea market, long live 16 bit!

Yeah I love that game. I still have my Pack in from when I got my Gen. I really think this is a game that deserves a real sequil. Not that crappy thing put out on the GBA.

The Master System version is not only choppy and slow, but it's missing the cave stage (stage 3) and the ability to morph into the demon bear.

I have Altered Beast for the GBA and I think it's a pretty good sequel. It's a shame though that the stages are so freaking long and tedious.

BTW: I still play my Genesis version of Altered Beast on my Nomad a few times a week. It's one of the best arcade games ever and a true classic!

If you think Altered Beast is choppy on the SMS, try Strider. I tried it the other day because we got a copy in at my store, and good God did it BLOW. His flip jump has like 3 frames, and it's in ULTRA slow-mo. Although the NES one is a very different game it destroys the SMS version.

MegaDrive/Genesis OWNS...the Neo's true predecessor.

Agreed! Don't the Neo and Genie share the same cpu?

I hold that Altered Beast for Genesis had the most enjoyable sound test easter egg ever:

"Rise-rah-rah-rah-Rise from your grave!"
"Welcome-Well-We-We-w-w-w-w-Welcome-Wel-Welcome to your doom!"

Yup, I used to annoy the hell out of friends with that.
