One of my favorite sources of comedy...

One of my favorite sources of comedy has to be the <a href="http://www.ebgames.com" target="_blank">www.ebgames.com</a> user reviews. They are funny yet very sad at the same time. Just by reading these things, you can see that a number of gamers out there are barely literate. Spelling mistakes are rampant, and the sentences are either incomplete or the entire review is one run-on sentence. A number of times, the grammar and spelling are so bad I have to question whether or not the writing is English. I can't help but laugh at some of these reviews, but afterwards I feel bad because gamers like that give intelligent, level-headed gamers a bad name. What do you guys think?

I've never read one of their reviews so I can't really comment. I'm sure it's a barrel of laughs though. But remember one thing though, a lot of ppl just don't take the time to spell check or even give a rats ass how their stuff looks simply because no one is grading them. I admit if I was to write up a review I'd want it to look intelligent... but then again you have me doing things like the 3 dots separating run on sentences because I can. I'll have to check out those reviews though, maybe they are really that bad. smirk

Well, ebgames.com first and foremost has a biz to run, so I bet they couldn't care less about the quality of their user reviews. The user review system exists because it's an interactive feature of their shop that keeps ppl on-site and coming back, not so much a source of valuable info about new games.

But you're right, stuff like this is just hilarious:

"I know what some of you might think, but this game sucks really bad. Theres poor gameplay and your money is better spent on Splinter Cell." (C. Putnam on Defender for Xbox).

That's all he had to say. A one-liner, poor grammar, and an even more stupid recommendation... ...but notice the link which reads "Customer Reviews" - guess that says it all.

Your absolutely correct!

Usually they're all just meaningless rants but ever once in a while you'll find true gems but there hard to come by especially for the bigger titles that get over 1,000+ reviews.

Examples-

Godzilla for Xbox:
XBOX SUCKS!!! GAME CUBE ROCKS!!!
I have seen pictures of this game and I would like to say the graphics suck it looks as bad as Atari 26000. But what can you expect from Xbox it has the worst graphics out of the three sytems. If you want good gameplay and graphics get GAMM. For Nintendo GameCube it's much more fun then this lame excuse for a game will ever be. I also saw a demo of it played so I know how gameplay is Godzilla move as fast as a dead slug his trademark roar was changed to a tiger growl. This game will never amount to anything period!!!

What's funny is about 99% of all their reviews are either, "OMG OMG this game is teh best game EVAR!" or "This game is teh sux."

Oh, and the other one percent usually have somewhere in them, "Zelda? More like Cel-da. It must be gay." lol

Our good friend 'a.customer' gives this in-depth review of Metroid Prime:

"WORST.FPS.EVER
Okay.. so maybe it's not the worst. But it sure as hell sucks. You shoot little creepy crawlers. The only time you shoot little creepy crawlers in HALO is when the flood gets loose. And those little things are even a CHALLENGE.

Metroid is a waste of shelf space in the stores. If I had control of all the games, I would control them all into oncoming traffic. But even the cars don't want them.

If you want to get a good GameCube game, get Resident Evil. Metroid sucks. My friends who have GameCube says it sucks. I played it and I say it sucks. Bottom line, it sucks.

If you want to play a game where you have a gun and just want to roam around, shooting something here and there.. then this is a game for you. Even the commercial for Metroid sucked. That's why they don't play it anymore. This game is wayyyyy overrated.

Found another very nice one. This time, a seemingly happy ebgames customer is telling us about Blood Wake on Xbox:

"Lots of people say level 9 is hard,but it is easy! i give evrything 10! Keeps you playin! I am 10 and am on the last level.It sooooo hard! Thhe things that r bad is that......aaaa it is a hard! yeah thats it. So do NOT i repeat do NOT reant this game,.....buy it".

He gave it a 5/5. And yep, this is all of his "review".

Quote review on DoA Volleyball:

The customer reviews on ebgames.com just make we want to vomit most of the time.
