I'd like to have Cable Modem, but I'm not going to risk a $2,000 PC... nah, I'll just surf the Net and download stuff via my XBOX (I'm assuming Broadband Xbox Live can do more than just play games) because I'd rather replace a $200 system if something happened than a $2,000 PC

There is no browser for the Xbox at this time. Will they release one? Only time will tell.

no one can physically damge your pc from hacking.

and if they can, i dont know about it, and i've had broadband for over 4 years.

and only once have i ever gotten a serious virus infection (and it wasnt me either, it was my sister) and it was gone in less than an hour witht he virus programs of today.

all you put at any sort of risk is your data.

and, microsoft has stated that the xbox will remain as un-pc as possible, no keyboards, no mice, no internet explorer.

Lucky bastards ;) . There's absolutely no type of DSL/ISDN access in my area and there probably never will be. Damn, that broadband by satellite cost a fortune.

1)OH YES THEY CAN A talented Hacker can Crash a system if they have the right tools. For example some time tech Support will take over your PC remotely. A talented Hacker could do the same thing

2)Microsoft may have said they want to keep it as un PC as possible but I hear a Mouse an Keyboard are on the way. A company can change there mind very quickly. An XBOX browser could be seen in the near future probably limited to sites that let you Download Content for Live games though.

No physical damage can be done, at worst you have to format the drive and put windows back on.

EXACTLY

crashing your system is one thing. but you cant physically blow up a pc, afaik, through software.

and why would you have to be afraid of a super leet hardcore hacker anyway. why would they go after a worthless (to them) home user when they can hax websites, bank accounts, and corporations.

plus i'd be more worried of my xbox getting fucked, i mean its not like you can just format and start over like a pc..but thats not gonna happen either...soo

But without a firewall I constantly get pop-ups telling me ways to enlarge my penis (Which is annoying when whatever you were working on is minimized just so you can see the window). Then again, I just use the firewall that comes with XP. I don't care about hackers, just spam.

I think they're trying to tell me something. :(

Yes, it is surprising.

But when I saw the ads about small penises that need to be enlarged you'll be happy to hear that I did think of you.

And I don't need a pop-up blocker, I never get those pop-ups as long as I have the firewall on.

Actually even a good hardware firewall will leave you with tons of ads and popups.

I use Adaware and AdSubtract and they work excellent. One kills and prevents spyware while the other kills popups and ads on websites.

<a href="http://www.lavasoft.de/" target="_blank">Ad-Aware</a>
<a href="http://www.adsubtract.com/" target="_blank">Adsubtract</a>

Both are worthy of buying.

Oh my god the evil hacker nam is going to put a virus on my system that will cause the power supply to melt down, the electron gun in the monitor will turn into a martian death ray, and the keyboard and mouse will sneak in the bedroom while I am asleep and try to kill me.
