Deadly Alliance is a great fighter. It;s unpolished, but it's a lot of fun and it actually requires some thought, unlike some of your latest topics.

Good, maybe a decent developer will grab it and take the MK series back to the limelight. I'm not saying DA was bad, but it offered nothing for this long time fan of the series. I just felt like Midway spent to much time turning it into a standard fighter instead of making it a true MK sequel.

Strange as i'm in the same boat as you, i always was a huge MK fan and always took it over street fighter 'back in the day', but MK4 was a bitter dissapointment and the series went to shit with the crappy spin-off games 'MK Mythologies Sub Zero (contender with superman 64 as the ultimate crap for the system) and Jax Special Forces (just far out lame). When DA came along i was extremely impressed , how a sequel should be - a total overhaul and correcting everything wrong with the installment before.

Sega could afford it.

I have heard rumors of Sega buying midway.

Oh yeah MK VS VF?

I completely agree with you, but I'll stick with the prequels. I played MK4 to death on my PSone as for some reason it impressed me quite a bit. I loved the superb and super gory FMV endings and IMO it had the best fatalities since MK2. Oh well, we all enjoy different things. MK Gold on the other hand I think we can all agree on. ;)

I always liked The Grid. Too bad my arcade pulled it because of hyper-sensitive morons.

MK DA is a decent fighter, but nowhere near the calibur of the Virtua Fighter series like every review I've read on it swears it is. The combat is stiff, movement is slow (I like the fact that Midway wanted to keep the combat close, but if you get knocked backwards it takes forever to walk back to your opponent. Where the hell's my run button?!?) and I'm not a huge fan of the Attack 1,2,3,4 layout over the standard HP, LP, HK, LK format. The character design is good and the backgrounds are well done, but it still needs some work. Over all its a good step up for the franchise. Oh, yeah, this "Buying Koffins" crap can jump straight up my ass. Screw that.

MK: DA is a good "second-tier" fighting game. Theres no way it has as much depth as VF4, KoF 2k1, Guilty Gear X, etc. But all around its a much needed and very well executed "apology" from Midway for the disaster that was MK4. I'm really impressed with the sheer number of different (and alltogether very real and accurate) fighting styles portrayed within the game. Its not very often you can play a fighting game in which you pull-off combos that utilize upwards of 3 seperate fighting styles.

Mortal Kombat vs Virtua Fighter? <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" />

Y'know what pisses me off? The fact you all felt obliged to compare it to virtua fighter when i didn't even insinuate it in my original post. 'A fun, though unpolished fighter' i bloody well know it's not as deep as virtua fighter so i don't need to here the same old crap over and over.

Almost every review on MK DA compares it to VF. We're just restating what was already said.

Not do Diss Virtua Fighter but what's so freakin Deep about it. The Same Punch Punch Punch pause you're open Combo is in every version for every character. Is getting around it what makes it deep? Don't get me wrong I Love Virtua Fighter and if there was an MK VS VF we all know who'd win.

It's sad to see that many arcade veterans are now third part of the game market.
