Is anybody into Warhammer on this board?

Or any Games Workshop games...

I was into Blood Bowl for a while, but didn't have anybody to play against... Then it got discontinued anyway...

I briefly tried Man 'o' War, but it didn't really hold my interest...

And I spent a lot of time playing Hero Quest ( I was the DM though ). I liked how that game was easy to pick up... I even made a few extra quests... wink

Years ago I was heavily into Warhammer 40K, I still am to some extent although I don't play anymore. I played Space Hulk on the PC for months on end ( I can still remember the theme song). Terminators, Space Marines, genestealers, good times. Now you've got me wanting to play again.

All my old WH40K stuff is lost to the ages unfortunatly. I always played as either the Blood Angels or the Chaos Marine World Eaters. Then theres always the Chaos Marine Death Guard
<img src="http://www.games-workshop.com/40kuniverse/warhammer40k/chaos/astartes/deathguard/images/deathguard-640.jpg" alt=" - " />

Now, thanks to you, I have to go buy a new WH40K set. :)

lol, years ago I used to play as the Dark Angels in WH40K.

I also had an Undead army for the regular Warhammer.

I've always wanted to get a set, but 2 things kept me from actually getting it:

1. I wouldn't have anybody to play against, and

2. I would have to paint the whole army... I don't think I would have the patience for that.

Now , for the first reason ( excuse, actually wink ), a Games Workshop store opened nearby... and they have two of those "terrain" tables... wink

I have a bunch of White Dwarf mags from a while back...

What do you call those Blood Angels Marines that have gone crazy and can't feel pain anymore? I thought that concept was really cool.

That would be the Berserkers. Here's the Blood Angel's Combat Doctrine for the games workshop site:
COMBAT DOCTRINE
The Companies of the Blood Angels generally fight as one would expect from a disciplined force of the Adeptus Astartes. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are Battle Companies, and these four Companies form the main battle lines and generally bear the brunt of the fighting. The specialist Companies are kept in reserve and only deployed when necessary.
However, these Companies cannot be relied upon to fight in the structured, disciplined way of the Imperial Fists or the Dark Angels, for the strength of their genetic curse can turn even the most taciturn veteran into a berserker, wishing only to rend his enemy apart and slake his overriding thirst for battle. The Black Rage can possess any and all Blood Angels during the heat of battle, be they a Devastator squad or the driver of a Vindicator. As such, it is always uncertain as to whether a Blood Angels contingent will hold a position. It is just as likely that they will run screaming forward in an attempt to rip the enemy limb from limb with their bare hands.
This has in the past led to the total massacre of the Blood Angels’ foes on unnumbered occasions. Possibly one of the most famous of these was the Battle at Hive Tempestora, where the Blood Angels assaulted en masse with such undaunted ferocity that their charge smashed apart the enemy line, enabling them to establish a beachhead in a situation considered hopeless by Imperial tacticians. It is said that the fanatical zeal of the Blood Angels also enabled them to achieve the impossible throughout the Armageddon campaign. This unpredictability makes them extremely unpopular with other Imperial commanders, but the Blood Angels care not. They know that their constant struggle against the Black Rage makes them stronger, not weaker.

That's when they don't die until the end of the turn ( or battle, I can't remember ) right?

I thought it was Blood Lust , lol...

I'm pretty sure it's the Black Rage, but don't quote me on that.

I am and have been for ages... I play both Fantasy and 40k.

In Fantasy I just play straight Orcs & Goblins, I have around 3-4,000 points I'd say, all Night Goblins/Black Orcs.

In 40k I play Orks, but since they can be such a pain in the ass and my army is so old and in such bad condition I play Chaos also. Nurgle/Tzeentch even though I know they aren't supposed to mix you can get around it with the new codex. We just started playing again actually after a 2-3 year hiatus, but now because of the fucking snow I can't get anywhere to play anybody. I just got a Land Raider and a few Obliterators that I can't wait to try out...

Maryland is actually a damn cool place to live if you're in to Warhammer and tabletop wargames and stuff... The Games Workshop National Headquarters is in Glen Burnie, which is like 20 minutes from my house... So basically that means we have access to the entire back catalog of stuff they've made, where everyone else would have to mail order I can just go right to the place and get anything they've ever made regardless of whether or not it's in print.

Necrons aren't very new, they've been around for a while... They are new compared to like Space Marines though, they were a late addition that came out between the transition from 2nd to 3rd edition. They are the robot people that are like Terminators that can come back from the dead. Some of their new shit looks really cool, like the Monolith... It's fucking huge.

I also play Blood Bowl. That game is awesome.

Bwahaha!

I think an issue of White Dwarf came with a CD/Record or something from them back in the day.

I've played on and off for years.

The last month or so I've been getting into a bit again, and I think I'm going to go drop $100 on the start of an Eldar army. I was never a huge Eldar fan, but the Grav Tanks are dope -

I don't know anybody locally that places, but there are a good amount of shops/game stores around so I figure I'll be able to get some comp.

This is something that always called my interest. I have never bought a set but I even once bought A Games workshop magazine. All these little figures look awesome. I would like to start with it, just for the fun of painting them etc. But I have no time even for videogames.

Now I think that they have created a new game based on the Lord of the Rings.

Is this hobby very expensive? Should all the figures be painted by you?

It can get quite expensive.

On average metal figures will run you about 5-25USD. Vehicles 25USD and up.

Normally the books are around 15USD, while the main boxset to start playing a game (Warhammer 40K for example) will run you about 75USD.

If you buy the premade army kits, or buy the plastic boxset units, the price is quite abit cheaper.

IMHO, since I don't get to play very often, most of the enjoyment comes from painting the models. I've known people that primairly enjoy playing/constructing armies, so they either had very crudely painted models, or had somebody else paint them for them.

You get out of it what you put in I suppose.

Anyone know who did the theme song for the PC version of Space Hulk? I loved that song.

Necron? Is that a new army?
I guess so. Stuff was still coming out when I was getting the stuff I have. They are pretty nifty. You can warp them around the board in the middle of a battle with their HQ unit, or with their tank type vehicle, and they have a 50% chance of getting back up after they die since they are robots. You roll at the start of the next turn to see which get up and which stay dead. Its called the "we'll be back" rule. Plus they have the armor save of a Space Marine, and their weapons always glance on a 6 roll.

Played a game tonight. A thousand points of my Chaos vs. a thousand points of his Imperial Guard. We did a breakthrough mission where I was in the center and had to get as many troops as possible to either board edge... Man did that Land Raider come in handy. My Obliterators did decent, they took out a Basilisk and immobilized a Chimera... The real star of the show was the squad of Plague Marines I had mounted in the Land Raider... They managed to take out a full squad along with his leader and comissar. Eight of those bastards lasted 4 turns of hand to hand, they absolutely rocked his leader and comissar and only took two casualties... I also had a squad of Terminators that got hit by a Demolisher cannon, and a squad of basic marines that got hit by the Earthshaker cannon, so those squads were basically in pieces by the end of the game, but they all performed well...

All in all it was a really good game... First really even game I've played in a while, and those games are always the best in friendly play.

Hey there!

I am a Wargames and RPG's fanatic, as much as I am a retro-gaming fan or even more.

As for GW stuff, I play:

-Blood Bowl (Undead and Orcs, my Undead team is a most fearsome sight ;-) )

-Warhammer 40k : Dark Angels, my girlfriend plays with Orks and Dark Eldar.

And btw, Bolt Thrower used to be a quite good Death Metal band. Death Metal RULES!!!!
