Seriously, back on release, it was fantastic. Incredible to look at as well as listen too, and who cares if I couldn't understand it. I had to have it on release before any of the American heathens I share oxygen with could play it.

Now it's like on everyones' top games list, and I'm not that interested in it anymore. You know, like when Trent Reznor got popular, and then his music just didn't sound as good. That's my sentiment.

One of my favorite games of all time, back then and now.

It's rare for me to find a game that I can replay over and over again and never tire of, and yet I must have beaten Chrono Trigger at least several dozens times.

I love everything about it, the characters, the graphics, the music, the story, and most importantly the gameplay and battle system.

It's just an extremely fun game, and deserves all the attention and respect it gets as one of the greatest RPG's ever.

Honestly I've never played it.

But through a trade, the game will finally be in my possesion most likely tomorrow. Then I shall see if it lives up to the hype.

Now I'll be honest : I've never played it...

I don't have too much of patience anymore to play RPG's... :(

I got a whole pile of them waiting for me to start them/finish them...

FF3, Wild Arms, etc... I even forgot the names of most of them ( there's a couple I haven't opened yet )

I agree, Charlie. My friend got it on release day and you can bet we stayed up all night playing that, but now, it feels kind of whored out. It's a great game, but it's the reason chrono chross sold so well, and that game had one of the worst combat systems ever (so you mean one of my charachters wastes turns because I want another one to cast a spell that takes 3 turns, or use an attack that doesn't suck?) and some of the most uninspired character designs ever.

Not to mention the easily-excited new breed of RPG otaku that have popped up since ff7 seem to drool over this when they only played the ps port. Shit...I just realized, I sound like Fran. Time to turn on the oven and stick my head in.

-edit-(no offense F, I just realized how jaded I'm becoming :( )

Chrono Trigger deserves it. I think it's ridiculous to deem a game good or bad because of the amount of fans it gathered. Back in the early 90s I got Final Fantasy 2 as a Christmas present, although I could not get turned onto it. The idea of hitting your enemy and numbers coming out of it was pretty stupid to me (yep, I wasn't a D&D kid growing up).

However, when I saw Chrono Trigger I was immediately drawn to it because I could recognize Akira's art style anywhere. My local video game store didn't have Fatal Fury Special in, so I grabbed this (not having a clue to what kind of game it was, only for the art).

I popped it in, and the rest is history. This game was my "gateway rpg" in the sense that it turned me onto rpgs in general. A game that has that much impact on me deserves nothing less than the deserving praise of a great rpg in my book.

Man, I remember being sooo pumped for this game when it was coming out (one of the first new releases I bought - I always rented games until I got my first job), and I certainly can't complain about the entertainment value - I did *everything* and had a great time doing it.

Strangely enough, though, when I get in the mood for some classic RPG gaming, I *never* even consider playing this one again. Part of it has to be the lack (relative to the games I usually do consider) of customization - everyone's game plays about the same, you know? And I'm sure just the idea that I've completed the game 100% is the other problem. It's the same as Final Fantasy X - as good of a time as I had leveling up, doing all the crazy sidequests, etc, I'll be damned if I ever find the drive to do it all over again.

But yeah, good game.

I love this game...it's one of the greatest I've ever played. The music, the plot, the battle system, the excitement I felt at times...the latter has kinda gone away, but I still LOVE this game...artwork...

Chrono Trigger is my all-time favorite video game. I rented it when it came out, mainly based on the high reviews it got (I never played any RPGs before besides Zelda, which I don't count). From the moment the game started I knew this game was something special. I rented it about 10 times after that, but then the rental place went out of buisness.

Years later, I finally bought the game on ebay about 6 months before the PS1 port was released. You know, back when Chrono Trigger on SNES was selling for aound $100. Still worth every penny. Chrono Trigger is videogame perfection.

Damn well deserving.

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Chross are the ONLY RPGs that had any replay value whatsoever, one for it's insane amount of endings and the other for it's insane amount of characters. Both amazing, amazing games.

Unfortunately, few RPG's have ever held my attention for a few saves, same with this.....

I must have started it 10 + times, which was good when playing it, but it soon bored the hell out of me, granted it looks like one of the better RPG's.

Got much further in Chrono Cross, which is what i'd call "a very good game"

Overrated. It was amazing back in the day for me to waste time with, and it's not a bad game by any means, but it's just not as good as everyone says. It's far too easy and the gameplay lacks much depth. The story is well done in some ways, but horrible in others. The overall story was amazing and the multiple endings were great, but the characters from other time periods just going along for the time travel without any questions asked... It made the characters 2 dimensional as soon as their part of the plot was done.

Most of all, I just wish there was more to the gameplay. There really isn't much difference between any of the characters except maybe Marle. Anyone can be a kick ass attacker and spell caster, and anyones combos were just as good. Everyone easily got maxed out HP and MP. There was not a lot of strategy or anything.

For me it was a simple rpg but I loved it anyay. I remember the night I go tit( I traded a kid mario all stars for it...DUMBASS) I must have gotten 12 hours in on that first day and I was to tired to goto school the next morning:P(First time cutting school..damn you square..) the plot wasnt the best and the game was fairly easy..but I still loved it..its simplenesswas one of its qualitys I suppose..plus the artwork and the gameplay was pretty nice..yeah the game lives up to the hype for me.

Lord knows I've tried to play this one, but I could not get in to it.

Boring game to me as I rarely play RPGS anyways. I think the last one I played to completion was Skies of Arcadia on DC, and before that it was FF7 (because of the hype got me me).

I'm sure of RPGs were your cup of tea, it would be great, great but me, it didnt grab my attention like SOA did, or even FF7, but again, I am NO RPG expert and on the whole, I despise the genre.

RPGs: I lack the attention span for them, so yes, to me, CT was overrated.

Perfectly sums up how i feel.

The only games i like that could be classed as RPG's are the Shenmue games, but as they are so unlinear it would unfair to call them RPGS.

chronotrigger is one of my more favored games.
i really ended up liking it.

that i grew accustomed to and ended up liking too.
who was it?
luccas mom?
or whoever.
i didnt save her.
man i felt bad.
but the music was real good.
and i like the more adventure feel to it.
most square games feel so tiring and numb to play for me.
but i liked this. sd3 too. never got to play
secert of mana believe it or not.
or well i tried the first part but never got the
game...
honestly i gotten chrono cross and gave it to my
brother. it looked so dumb.
the chara looked dumb. and it shined of ff7 with
really bright colors i guess.

Man, I've always loved this game. I first bought it for the artwork by Akira Toriyama, but I quickly realize that there really was an awesome game to be found. Stupid me, buying the Japanese SFC and PSX versions... frown

Damn good game, then AND now. If there weren't so many other games I have yet to complete that I own, I'd definitely go back through this one.

One of the best soundtracks to come out of Square, along with Seiken Densetsu's (Legend of Mana on PSX). Legend of Mana, the game, was WAY underrated IMHO.

Overrated. I played through it and never felt like it was anything special. Don't know why, it never impressed me that much (not saying it is a bad game or anything, just not a masterpiece).

I really enjoyed playing through Chrono Trigger when it came out on the SNES, everything about the game was top-notch. The problems? The game felt way too short and easy! By the time you got remotely into it, like mentioned above, you got at least one character maxed out, and the last boss is a peice of cake. Chrono is one of the few RPG's I can proudly say I beat a couple of times, just to look for anything new (even the small things that you miss the first time when you play these type of games). It was a very entertaining game to say the least!

Still, the game is a shining example of an RPG done right. Definately not without it's flaws, but captivating and enjoyable to those who were/are into RPG's in this era of gaming.

Definately well deserving. My favorite part is the fact Chrono only speaks once in the game by himself. And I love Toriyama's art. Where is Chrono Break,Squaresoft? I would rather see this than FFX-2. Bring back Toriyama as well.
