howdy i was looking to buy this car and in the description they mention it has a cracked engine block. how much would that cost to repair? or should i just try to fix it myself. and if it's something i can do on my own where can i get instructions for it? don't laugh at me about the fact that i want an elcamino i'm tired of having to borrow my aunt's el camino she lives down the street from me, and i drive her car to school, as she got a new acura. yet she wont give the el camino up as it was her first car and she loves it. any help would be great.

You'll have to look for another 350 block and replace it. Not sure what the going rate is but I am sure you can get one fairly cheap at a junkyard or car parts place. As far as swapping out the blocks I have a feeling you would need some help from a mechanic or a someone that knows a good deal about cars. I am sure you can find a Chiltons manual (or other repair manual) on the car itself. good luck

I think that to change the engine block, you basically have to remove everything on/in the engine... :(
That's like the main body of the engine...
Unless you plan on swapping the engine on the car for a more powerful one ( wink ) , you might not want to get that one...

I don't know much about cars, but a cracked engine block is an expensive thing to fix.

Yeah I would guess you are looking at 2 grand + for the repair unless you can remove and engine and put it back in yourself. And I dont think you can just change the block. I think pyro is right, you will need a new engine.

You could find a used, running 350 for a few hundred dollars. I bought a used 350 (4 bolt main, power pack heads) for 250$ to put in my '69 chebby truck when i gutted the previous engine on a dirt run. Took me an afternoon to install it.

The whole thing here is that you can just replace the block you just need to be able to find one for a good price. And also you need the tools to yank the engine out.

No, it's silly to replace a block. Machining a used block to accept parts from another engine is so expensive, it's ridiculous. Just find another engine.
