How the hell will the E-reader work with the GBA sp?

Yeah, so I'm looking at pictures of this new GBA and even seeing stores that are bundling the E-reader with the thing, and I can't figure out for the life of me how the fuck they will work together. I see the cartridge port on one end, and the link port on the other... Then I look at my E-reader, and I see the part that goes in the cartridge port and the link port directly next to each other. I'm confused.

Will they work together? Are companies just dumping E-readers with the sp because they can? Are they re-designing the E-reader to work with it or something?

I guess in all honesty it wouldn't be too big of a deal if they weren't compatible... The sp will be like an actual portable system I guess, one that I can take around with me and be able to play because I'll actually be able to see the screen and not have to worry about it getting scratched... I couldn't really see myself wanting this huge E-reader hanging off the back of it when I'm on the go...

But it would still be nice if it worked, and it would be really dumb of Nintendo to just leave this piece of technology in the dust...

Probably just bend the screen up to a 90 degree angle and have at it.

IGN showed the e-Reader working, but with the NES and other game cards only. So, I'd assume that you can't e-Reader/GBA-GC Link (Animal Crossing Cards/Tropical Island) games with the GBASP.

*Bump*

I bumped this topic 'cuz I just tried out my GBA SP with my E-Reader for Animal Crossing and it does NOT work.

The E-Reader does work with the GBA SP if you're using it to play the NES cards, Pokemon Cards, or to read the letters on the Animal Crossing cards but if you want to transmit data from the GBA SP/E-Reader into Animal Crossing, it does not work.

I still have my old GBA and hooked it up with the E-Reader/GC Cable and downloaded the AC info into the E-Reader unit then swapped back to the GBA SP and it still does not work. I imagine it's not going to since both the cartridge slot and the data slot on the E-Reader need to be plugged into the GBA and on the SP it's currently not possible unless Nintendo makes some kind of connection wire you can buy.

Incidentally, someone made a wall/door design for AC that was the Neo Geo logo. Does anyone have it so I can put it in my AC game? :D

It does too work. I just used it. oh_no

You can't plug the GBA/GCN cable into the e-Reader. you put it on top of the GBASP. The only reason the e-reader had the port is so that it was a pass thru port. It has nothing to do with the hardware.

*Phew*

That would suck goat balls if it didn't work with AC. That's like the main reason I own the E-Reader in the first place... I've already traded in my old scratched up GBA to EB for $40 towards an SP, but for some reason it's taking them weeks upon weeks for them to get a shipment of the things...

Oh well, at least it works. I was thinking that would be pretty weird if it didn't work, because since posting this thread I have found out about how the connection to the link port was just a pass through since the E-Reader blocked it...

Now... I still need to get my SP. Does anybody know when Nintendo is going to be doing another run of these things so the remaining people that want them can give them their money?

Yes, exactly. It was simply a pass through port due to the cart slot. The only down side to the E-reader on the SP is that the port plug gets in the way of hitting select (not impossible, but not as easy) you only use it on a few NES games really though, just to switch between Play Mode A or B, no big deal. The E-reader placement feels a little odd if you trying to play NES games though, rather then just link up to transfer info. Again, it's not a big deal, it doesn't make anything impossible, just awkward feeling at times. Keep in mind the E-reader was designed for the GBA and not the SP. It's quite crafty that they got everything working so well on the SP. All Offical Nintendo GBA products are compatible with the SP as far as I know. I've heard of some people saying that their GCN-GBA link cable pushes the L and R buttons down, but I've used it myself and that is either a bullshit lie, some kind of really old cable that isn't on the market since 2 days after they came out, or a shitty 3rd party one (which I didn't even know they had).

hey Chainsawyak one question about the e-reader and the NES game cards. How close are they to the real thing? Is the sound just like how you hear it on the NES?
