Either, or if you like, both versions.

The original got a lot of talk in '99, and lots of casual gamers are goo-ga over it. So, what do you think, Mr. Elitest G8mer? :p
Overhyped, or well damn deserving?

It was fun in the arcades, and the for a day on the DC, then less fun on EVER OTHER SYSTEM!!! This game was ported to more systems than the original Mortal Kombat :D . Then came the sequels. Man o man.

Great game man. GREAT game.
Always fun to pick up and play; but it was meant for an arcade more so than your home.

I don't like this game. It's way overrated. The controls are shit and it gets old fast.

If anything I think Crazy Taxi is UNDERRATED. To me this game has the kind of addictive quality of a game like Pac-Man. The game is relatively simple to learn, yet VERY difficult to master. The controls are easy to figure out, the soundtrack fits perfectly, and while the dialogue is corny, it fits the game pretty well. I've played the Arcade, DC and PS2 versions of the original and I've loved every one. The game definitely isn't perfect, there's some problems with seeing distant objects, screwy arrows, etc. but this game is definitely the business. One of my favorite games EVER.

Crazy taxi was very cool when it came out.CT2 was still pretty good but CT3 didn't push the genre at all.Its pretty much a CT remix with an enhanced west coast and small apple plus that new glitter oasis stage. There are no gameplay tweaks at all...
The soundtracks are pretty good though.

As for the arcade version of the original CT, its the best version graphically.DC version may be close but there are pop-ups, loadings(before character select) and some slowdowns.Heck, the arcade version look better than the DC version looks with VGA support.Pop-ups in the arcade version is minimal.I have played it many times and it feels much better than playing it at home. The arcade version still looks good today.

If I had to pick the game with the most unintuitive controls, I'd pick Crazy Taxi. Could someone explain how anyone who tried to master this game could think the controls were passable? You go into reverse and then back into forward while hitting gas to get a boost? That kind of shit makes no sense. But, you'd have to do it over and over constantly to be a master. It's not like other racers where you get ahead by taking the turns perfectly or maybe a cart racer where you can get a boost at a certain time.. You'd have to be doing this constantly! And that's just one example.... ugh.

Crazy Taxi is, for me, one of the best games to appear on the Dreamcast.
Its a game I still played 6 months after I bought it on a fairly regualr basis (and thats rare for me).

I think of it as having the same properties as pinball - its all about the highscore, and the game never really 'ends', you just get better and better at it.

CT2 and 3 never managed to recapture the magic of the first game, so I guess CT is a bit of a 'stand-alone' game. It's a game that was perfect in its first incarnation and could never be improved upon.

Now that's rare.

Exactly.

When I first got Crazy Taxi for my DC, I played it for months straight, never even bothered to play anything else.

I got damn good at it too, swerving in and out, dodging cars, making mad jumps, dropping off customers in record time, all the while watching my score sky rocket.

And it was a blast, easily one of my favorite DC games of all time.

Sadly the sequels never really held my attention, don't know why, but they didn't.

But I'm looking foward to the new GBA version, should be cool if done right.

To me the original Crazy Taxi was a benchmark game for the Dreamcast, and while it didnt last too long, and had shalow gameplay, it is still a classic game.

An unmissible play with the official Dreamcast wheel.

Crazy Taxi fuckin rocks the house!

i remember getting it for dreamcast, and was blown away by the graphics, and fluid , fun and intuiative gameplay! it was very much like an extreme sports title in a way, learning all the tricks and manoveurs, and then putting them to perfect use. I also sent my high score into the official dreamcast magazine as it was once of the best! a 70 minute game getting about 50 customers and earning a cool $47,000 with the crazy taxi rank! w00 w00!

sadly i disliked Crazy Taxi 2 immensely, the arrow was very poor, and the city was badly designed.

I do liek Crazy Taxi 3 however, the west coast is as good as ever, and you can play at day or night time, and have acces to all 12 cabbies. Also has Bad Religion on the soundtrack again :) (CT2 was just offspring over and over...boring) and the glitter oasis coarse is a lot better than around apple.

Fun game, but way overhyped... best suited as an arcade game. Good value for $29.99 or less... I'd pick it up for about $20 at most though.
