I like those "vs." threads we see nowadays. So I decided to see how this will be accepted.

One of my personal top ten games. I still find joy in replaying it with various cripples on myself to make it more challenging. I think some people over-rate it, but it really is an absolutely tops game.

Definetly in my top five games ever. Truthfully I can never decide when someone asks me what I think thebest game ever is.

Uh, maybe you should fucking open it.
Why just sit on games, let alone some of the greatest games ever? That's not what they were made for...

It's in my top 3 at least. The only thing that doesn't make it score best game ever is the horrible voice acting. If it had badass voice acting then I think it would be #1 pretty easily..

It's just too easy even as Richter, that's my only gripe. Well, as Richter it's kind of hard to do some of the bosses, but I managed it without much problem... I guess you could do the thing where you limit yourself. It's a great game, yeah. Not overrated.

i've never been a castlevania fan so it didn't really excite me. i can appreciate the artwork that went into the stages , though.

The dubbing is bad...

If only they had subbed it instead of dubbed... oh_no

What about saturn vs. PSX versions???

Ive only got Saturn version, quite happy with that.

If you are going to buy it make sure you dont get ripped off cause if you look and wait hard enough, a second hand store will turn up with a £10 copy one day, same can be said for chronicles, retailing in some uk game stores for£10 sealed if you look.

I don't have any problems with the vioce acting. it just suits the old Romanian dracula atmosphere ......... take the first dialog between Richter and Dracula. I liked Alucard's voice and the way he talks too

I think what makes this game so appealing is that there was so much effort put into it ! all of the suttle lighting effects that go into Alucards persona , the seemingly unlimited secret weapons you can find by raising your luck , perfect sound effects , perfect music , and perfect atmosphere .

Its a extremely well crafted game I am sure there are very few people who have found every single item , weapon , shield and or preformed every single spell you can muster with the shield rod and figured out every swords special ability .....
I found one sword in the game that creates fallen soldiers to fight along side of you ...

fantastic game .

Yes indeed. I loved this game from start to finish. I can't wait to see the new Castlevania they're working on for the PS2. I hope they don't screw it up.

I did everything possible with the game. every item, weapon, armor ......... etc. the only thing that I coulden't find is one of the monsters (forgot the name). if I just could find him, the monster list will be complete and by that, I'll complete the game 100%.

I still have the game save and I'll try to find that monster but I'm waiting for a chance to play the game all over again and complete it from the beginning ........... sheeeesh can't get enough

I agree.

SotN is a beautiful game in terms of both grahpics and audio, and you'll never hear me say otherwise.

But it's just too easy to be enjoyable enough to be one of the best games ever (meaning something like top 10 for me).

Richter's mode is so generic it actually worsened my opinion of the game, whether it should have or not. *Spoiler Alert* I covered as much of the first castle as I could with him, but as soon as I reached the second, I no longer felt like seeing everything... probably because I had ALREADY seen it twice before, with Alucard. I blazed through the second castle in fifteen minutes! And for reasons that even the world's most brilliant scientists can't determine, YOU DON'T FIGHT DRACULA AT THE END. Now that's lazy development. And for those of you who think Richter's mode is worthwhile, at least to see a new ending I've seen mentioned, forget about it... THERE IS NO NEW ENDING.

I firmly believe that Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a better game. It's a shame the GBA has such a poor screen, otherwise I think the game would have received the attention it deserves.

i think its a good game.
but its not my favorite castlevania.
and i quite frankly dont consider it one in the back of my head.
its a very nice game in terms of small nuances
but other than that its just a different spin
in the vein (hahah) of super metriod in terms of
exploration.
i think its pretty overrated though.
but thats because it doesnt hold my attention
like the other castlevanias in the same way.
plus i m sure its just me. but i hate small sprites.
it bugged me with the contra ps2 game too.
i d rather have bigger characters if its all the same.

Nahh...I'm a collector..they will be worth more sealed.
The only reason I bought them was for my collection.
I can get used copies to play anytime..No problem..
I'll buy used copies If I hear it's worth playing.
I have tons of sealed games I never open.

It's a good game, but I do believe it gets a bit more praise than it deserves. For me, it's in the same league as Radiant Silvergun... a good game that due to hype has been raised up to a status it doesn't quite deserve.

My fave PS title ever. Yeah, it's a bit on the easy side, if it has a flaw, that's it. Otherwise, it's a monument to everything that made 16-bit action games great...tons of secrets, sickeningly well-animated, huge wacked out bosses, and a quest just long enough to stay exciting. Can you name another PS side-scroller that comes even close to being as good? Nope. (Skeleton Warriors? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!)
If you want an overhyped Konami game to beat on, go find Metal Gear.
