The Hummer/Humvee is ugly, but mega-functional (if you're into off-road, anyway). Both of these two are just ugly.

Take a look-see at the two, then read a short article:

GM
H2

Avanti
The Studebaker XUV (what a name!)

GM Sues Avanti Motors in SUV Dispute
Fri Feb 14, 5:45 PM ET

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Avanti Motor Corp., saying Avanti's new Studebaker XUV too closely resembles GM's Hummer H2 sport utility vehicle.

GM said in a statement Friday that the Studebaker XUV, which debuted Friday at the Chicago Auto Show, "knocks off and misappropriates the shape" of the Hummer H2.

GM trademark attorney Charles Ellerbrock said "the Studebaker XUV is so similar to the H2 that the public will be confused by the knock off of the H2.

"GM will not allow its world-famous trademark rights to be violated," he said.

Georgia-based Avanti said Friday that an official statement from owner Michael Kelly would be released Monday from the Chicago show.

GM is seeking a preliminary injunction enjoining Avanti Motors from manufacturing, advertising, and selling the Studebaker XUV.

EDIT: Oh, in case you want to know more about the new Avanti monster, here's a link

since when could you trademark the general shape of a vehicle?

mazda would be suing ford, Chrysler would be jumping up toyota's ass.

Absolutely fucking stupid.

If this is the case, every automaker should be looking at Kia, since NONE of their lineup looks anything NEAR original...

I think the real problem is that the Avanti is probably like 1/2 the price of the H2, and GM doesn't want that kind of competition. Just my $.02

That Avanti reminds me of the Family Truckster.

Ford owns Mazda. Remember the Probe and the MX6? Same car. Also, the Ford Ranger and Mazda's pick-up are the same vehicle.

My wife who's from Spain was tellin me that you have to re-license an SUV every 6 months because it's a road/gas hog. Helps keeps the numbers down thankfully. I wish they'd do something like that here. SUV's suck.

It's true. I looked at a Mazda Tribute and the Mazda dealer noted that it's the Ford Escape frame, with nearly the same features for a lot less.

Ford owns Volvo, so theoretically they could make a Ford Cross-Country.

SUVs aren't bad... for people who would REALLY need that type of vehicle. It's all the other soccer mom and stick up rich fuck wanabes that feel they need their SUV because it's a status symbol. How many SUVs on the road actually get used for off roading? Not many is my guess. If you pay $60000 on an SUV and it's taking a large porion of your paycheck to keep it (as I am sure with gas and the lease/payment on the SUV it WOULD be a big portion of a person's check), you're less likely to want to get it scratched. Defeats the whole purpose of an SUV or 4 wheel drive truck.

I hate them too.
If a corvete that does 0-60mph in 4.0 and less (yes, I know the ratings are at 4.3 seconds... but they go faster than that)..... and STILL GETS 32 MPgallon... thats amazing. SUV's just SUCK.

um.. I think Avanti should sue GM for the same.. saying GM stole their patent... and copied their idea lol.... What would happen then?

GM/AM General was sued by DaimlerChrysler last year over the grille design of the H2, saying that it too closely resembled that of Jeep vehicles.

DCX lost.

GM will also lose this suit, and it is pretty silly since the Studebaker XUV isn't going to be high volume enough to take any sales away from the H2.

Oh, and shame on those of you who believe it is the government's duty to limit my freedom of choice in what vehicle I deem suitable for my needs. That is MY decision only, not yours, and not the governments. If I want to own an H2, that is my business.

SUVs make a lot of sense for a lot of people, if that's what the market wants, more power to the market.

I feel sorry for those of you who spend your days fretting about what other people drive.

Get a life, or move to a glorious socialist nation.

I'm actually surprised GM was dumb enough to sue Avanti because
(a) They're gonna loose
(b) They just gave Avanti a ton of publicity

Side note:
Your choice of car can be regulated like cigarettes. Why? Simple fact of our society:

Driving is a privilege, not a right.

(for example, a DUI can lead them to take away your privilage) Hence as a privilege, they can regulate the shit out of it, and we're complacent.
