On average, after a "big game" purchase, how long does it take before you....

You guys know what I mean. After a big game purchase, we are just in sheer awe and also likely in a GREAT mood (at least for the initial 2 hours or so)

But how long does it take, on average, for your sense of "wow, I finally/really own/play this game" dies off? I know it varies from people to people. Some gamers I know the excitement lasts just one day while others can last up to a month or more.

Me personally, I'd say 3 weeks. The first three weeks I'd be in sheer awe and thinking, "damn... I really am lucky to have and play this game." Then after that, the feeling of wonder starts to dissipate and it's never quite the same again.. but still feels pretty damn good every time I set it up.

How bout you guys?

And also, which game do you consider to be your "most excited purchase of all time?"

Mine would have to go to Radiant Silvergun. (also the same game that I was absolutely attached to, especially the first 3 weeks.)

A week I guess.

Most intersting purchase would have to be Radiant Silvergun as well. It's becoz before I bought the game, the hype surrounding it is HUGE. But really, it's worth all the monies I paid for it. Stuck playing with it for 2 weeks NON-STOP.

About 30 seconds after I've started playing it.

Seriously, I mean it.
No matter how much a game has been hyped, its still just a game. its still a piece of software that is displayed on a TV screen and controlled via a pad.

Thats not to say I don't enjoy them - but the sense of 'awe' wears off once what was previosly unreachable, becomes attainable.

For a fighting game? After a couple of hours. Once I've seen all the backgrounds, and all the endings, the feeling of newness goes away. That doesn't mean I enjoy it any less though.

For an action game like Biohazard or Devil May Cry, the feeling lasts until I finally finish the game, which may take a week or so.

For certain games such as Soul calibur, it took about a month.SC was one of the 1st games that looked awesome on a home console after all that 32-bit era.I was amazed and i was impressed that the graphics took a light year leap over the arcade version.
Gran Turismo 3 also "wowed" me for a good 1-2 months. Those cars looked so real with real time reflections and shit.Cool stuff.I don't remember any racing games looking this good at that time and it still amazes me now...
Love those replays. :)

Generally I become bored with something after having played the game for 3 days. I don't care how nice the graphics are, or how refined the gameplay... games (I'll always love/buy/play/collect them) just don't have that "magical appeal" they once held back in the day. My expectations are waaaay to high, and I can usually find something about a game right away that causes irritation (stupid shit) and then it's like "cool, I like this game, but what I might have done with the money had I not bought it?" I once tallied up all the systems I own or owned at some point along with the games and see that combined over the last decade I have spent $10,680... and have nothing to show for it. Only game in recent history that I actually got wrapped up in was MAX PAYNE, but even on that I played it for a week straight because I knew that any longer than that and I'd have just said "Fuck it, it's cool, but I'll come back to it later." That's what I did with the original Final Fantasy game on the Famicom/NES... I started my quest when the game was released and finally beat the game in March of 2000.

About 4 months or so. I'm normally pretty hyped to own a new neo game and after i've mastered a few charachters and can hang with level 8 difficulty I'm very familiar with the title. Of course with the costs of neo games after about 4 months, i've got enough cash to go buy a new one! I played kof '96 for about 3 months straight (same with '95 and '99). As far as other consoles are concerned, the feeling lasts only around 30 minutes or so. I was pretty bored with marvle vs. capcom 2 and capcom vs. snk.

My most exciting purchase was Shinobi. I waited a long time for this game, and when I got it I messed up on opening it up and ripped the insert very_ang , so i then went back and exchanged it for another copy :D . My sense of "wow" died off in like a month. Then it was just like having another good game added to my collection.
