Hello everyone!

Well, got and beat my copy on thrusday! Here is what it has:

1. Original Sharp X68000 version with three soundtrack choices.

2. Arranged version with difficulty, time, and lives option, plus new Soundtrack. Minor Additions to some backgrounds, extra effects, new look for Simon (excellent), and Dracula.

The original version is way more challanging than the arranged version. You have only 3 lives, and you take WAY more damage. Eventually you will only be able to sustain 4 hits!

Both are great, plus the arranged version has a wondeful CG opening, and Ending. It's old-school Castlevania at it's best. I give it a 9 out of 10, but I might be a bit biased since I love the series. It's not comming out here, so don't miss it!

3 lives? Oh......sounds mission impossible here.......

I'm still waiting for my copy and it should arrive within this week.

Anyone knows if US version will be out?

I don't think you want DC version.
It's developed by Konami of US and I don't trust them very much after I saw SNES Zombie ate my neighbors and other weird titles....nah....

mmmmmm..

I cannot wait to get this title.

But, my question is:

How does it compare overall to Symphony of the Night?

Verbatum has said it all. It's an old school castlevania game. If you have played previous 3 NES versions then you'll know.
SOTN is a new style of castlevania, so does G A version. Personally I like old ones better.

The ultimate Castlevania titles are 3 and Super NES 4. New school Castlevania fans will advocate for Drac X Duo, but that game was too easy.

Damnit! I just ordered my copy of Castlevania from NCSX (restock soon!). The thing is, I do not have any kind of mod in my psx that will let me play imports. I have the Dual Shock Version with the serial port on back. Can I purchase an external mod anywhere? Does Castlevania Chronicals have mod protection? Whats should I do?

Why you get import version if you don't own import or moded PS console? Rade Kuruc, you can send your console to www.playthegames.com to get moded or buy those bootdisk/gameshark what-so-ever.

I don't think Konami will put any lock on it. I'll let you know once I play it coz my PS is also moded. Don't open it yet....just wait.

BTW, NCS told me that they'll restock the game by end of last week....

I ordered it from other place instead and hopefully will get it either today or tomorrow....

Does anyone have problem playing it on your moded PS?

Is the game coming out here? If it is, the art on the cover will not be half as beautiful as the japanese art. Thats all I got to say. I will give NCSX a week, if they do not get it in by then, I will order elsewhere. I can wait. I have Saturn Castlevania coming soon, as do I have the GBA Castlevania to look forward to in a week (june 11).

Silent, whats better that Castlevania? Nothing, man!

The game has no mod protection. I got the game and put it in my chip modded PSX and it booted up like a pro. Enjoy it when you get it if you can. I'd say that play wise it's the midpoint between Castlevania 3 and 4/Super Castlevania. A pretty good game.

Yeah, I tried it on the X68000 emulation (which is shitty) and came away very pleased with the gameplay. I really cannot wait to have it in my grubby little hands. Patience.

Good to hear the news.
Rade Kuruc, I ordered Castlevania Chronicle from other place, not NCS. They haven't contacted me yet so I gave up my hope. NCS is a good company but restock is kinda slow.

Actually I haven't finished GBA Castlevania. Frankly speaking, I don't like map-type Castlevania. I'd prefer the old school one better.

where did you get the Saturn version, Rade Kuruc ?

I just got through giving the copy I bought while in Japan a spin, and I must say that I'm glad I purchased it! This is old-school Castlevania gaming at its best! Is it true that this game isn't coming out in the US? If so, that's a real shame. Now, if only Konami would release a "Contra" chronicles...

Fuck, I wouldn't mind seeing Contra vs. Gunstar!

Silent, I bid on it off of eGay for 44 dollars. which is not so bad considering the games gets some crazy bids sometimes. Its in great condition too and I shoudl be getting it any day know.. As long as I get to play it, i dont care. I love all the Castlevania's except for the N64 ones. And Catlevania 2: Simons Quest is probably my least favourite in the 2D line just because it has very little cohesion.

I like the map style games. Symphony was so cool because it was like playing the love child of Super Metroid and Castlevania, and it had cooler action than Simons Quest for Cohesion.

Did you know:

Did you know that that on ebay, the original Castlevania on PSX (US version) is demanding some serious cash for a game that is not too rare? But seriously, how many games are truly rare AND good. Ebay eats shit...making me waste my money on crooks just so I can play a game that they picked out of all the game stores so they could make a quick buck.

This next week or so is going to be Castlevania week for me as I am going to get to play 3 new (Saturn, kinda) Castlevania games. PLEASURE OVERLOAD!!!

We need to keep this Castlevania thread going.

Sure, Rade

Yeah, I've noticed the same phenomenon about PS original Castlevania SOTN on Ebay.
Right now I'm trying to get rid of my US games and replace with JPN version. I was on Ebay yesterday and saw 10 or so PS Castlevania auctions and most of them had price over $20....
Plus all of them say "Rare...", "it's original, not greatest hits"...and so on. I just don't get it. That means I can sell my copy for over $30 I think......
Weird.....

Hmm...let's see if this works...

Click here for the coolest Castlevania thread on neo-geo.com.

AFTER TESTING THE URL:

Here's how you do it.

1. Type a start bracket, followed by URL= and then type the http address link. After the link, type an end bracket. Make sure you put an end bracket at the end of the link. No spaces.

2. Type some text if you want it to look neat like mine, rather than as a standard internet address.

3. Type a start bracket, followed by /URL and then an end bracket immediately following the text. Again, no spaces after the text.

That should be it. Hope it helps !

Hey guys!

Glad to see my post kind of having a life of it's own! Wel, let me start a new topic for the thread:
What are your favorite Castlevania's (Akuma jo: Dracula)? Here are mine:

1. Dracula 4, SFC
2. Dracula X:Nocturne in the Moonlight, PS
3. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
4. Dracula 2, Famicom

My top five would be:

Dracula X: Rondo Of Blood (TurboDuo)
Dracula X: Symphony Of The Night (PSX)
Dracula 3 (NES)
Dracula 4 (SNES)
Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)

Honorable mention goes to all three GB Castlevania titles (yes, even Legends, which has some attractive manual artwork by the by and a FEMALE Belmont! Yes!), which are bitch-ass hard but a lot of fun, too .

By itself Drac X SNES is a good Castlevania game, but next to Rondo it is a weak, fading shadow. Since I played Drac X SNES before playing Rondo Of Blood I didn't have the TurboDuo bias factor so I was able to judge it a bit more objectively.

Lastly, I liked the N64 games but admit that they're probably near the bottom of the ladder for most people.
